Beeep...Beeep...Beeep...

I felt a hand on my hand, My eyes felt heavy. I could barely move. {What is going on?} I tried so hard to open my eyes, but I couldn't for some odd reason. All I could see was black.

After a few moments of silence, I heard a door open. At least I can hear through my ears. "How is she doing?" It must be dad. "She is doing ok, I guess." Mom must be the one who is holding my hand. Now, I really wanted to know what was going on. So I forced my eyes to open but, I closed them quickly due to the bright light. Then I realized, I was in the hospital.

"What happen," I groaned. Dad rushed to my side. Mom was first to speak. "You were in an accident," she said. I opened my eyes slowly and looked at mom and dad. Mom continued to speak. "A car was speeding and ran into the bus. More specifically, it ran into the back of the bus near the rear exit, where you were sitting. You and other people got hurt," she said. I did remember sitting in the back of the bus near the rear exit. I remembered that there were adults sitting there and no children. That was a relief.

"I was at the court house when John called my phone. He informed me of the accident and said that you got hurt badly. I hung up my phone and ran out of the court room before the judge came in the room to get here," dad said. Mom turned to him. "But Ren, what about your case?" She asked. I remember that the case was about secret distribution of steroids to student athletes at a high school. The steroids were to increase mental compactly so that students get better test scores. It was all in the file. "It doesn't matter. Derek will handle the case. He is second chair so he knows about the case inside and out," he explained. Derek is dad's best friend since law school. He is also my godfather.

I squeezed mom's hand to assure her that I felt fine. "I called grandpa and grandma a minute ago and they will be here in a few minutes," mom said. I nodded my head. I looked around the room and looked at my left leg. It was in a cast.

Before I can say anything, the doctor came into the room. "Looks like the Hanai family is here," the doctor said. "Hello Dr. Sinclair," dad said. Dr. Sinclair has been my family's doctor since my dad was a kid. He also knew about my trauma. "Will she be ok?" Mom asked. "Well Miyu, Yumi has bruised ribs, a cut on left her arm, and a broken left leg. She is lucky to be alive considering how small she is," he said. {I was lucky. I may be small but, don't let my size fool you.} "Also, the surgery to her leg was very long, but she will have no scars," he said. That was a relief for me.

A question came to my head. "When will I be able to get out of the cast?" I asked as I tried to sit up from the bed. I winced at the pain I felt from my chest. It was very painful. Dad pushed me down onto the bed. "You need to rest and take things easy," dad said. I nodded my head. I listened to dad and laid back down on the bed.

We all looked at Dr. Sinclair. "You should know that she will need to rehabilitate her leg. If she doesn't rehabilitate her leg, she may walk with a noticeable limp or may never be able to walk on it again," Dr. Sinclair explained.

I just froze on the bed. {What am I going to do. What about walking to school. What about playing tennis for exercise?} I just frowned. Dr. Sinclair saw how I looked and began to speak again. "Don't worry about a thing. I made a phone call to a buddy of mine in Germany. He works at the best rehabilitation facility in the world. The facility specialize in rehabilitating athletes," he said. "When will I be going?" I asked. "If everything is fine with bone growth and such, I would say about a month," he said. I looked at my parents. Did I really want to be apart from them?

"Don't worry about a thing sweetie. We will take care of everything," mom assured me. "I will inform the school about your situation and help Dr. Sinclair with arrangements," dad said. "You will be in good hands," Dr. Sinclair assured me. I didn't know what to think. If this is the only way to get my leg back to normal, then I will go through with what they say.
