🎶 LISTEN TO THE MUSIC 🎶
Back at the hospital Michael and Kayla sat three chairs apart until the nurse said they could go see Troy.
Michael followed behind Kayla. When he walked in the room, the Admiral was sitting up reading a newspaper. He pulled his glasses off and smiled.
"Weren't you two just here about an hour ago?" Troy asked.
"Yeah but want to make sure they are treating you okay," Michael answered. "Because if they were not, I'd fuck them up sir. With all due respect."
That made Troy laugh. "But really, I don't want you two worrying about me. I am completely fine. I'm bored as hell, so hopefully I can go first thing tomorrow morning."
Michael just shook his head and Kayla stared at the IV her dad was hooked up to. Neither one would look at the other.
Troy Jackson was not a damn rocket scientist, but he was not a unintelligent man either. He had run several missions in countries that had no easy way in or out. He had pulled last minute escape plans out of his ass to save his life and the lives of his men. And he was extremely good at reading people. Something was amiss with Michael and Kayla.
He looked back and forth between the two. Kayla would not look at him and Michael was trying very hard to act like nothing was wrong. He was really good at it because he was trained to be, but Troy was better.
"Kayla, could you please get me some ice?" Troy asked.
She nodded her head yes and walked out of the room.
Michael finally smiled at him.
"So, Admiral, any of the nurses here hot?" he smirked at him.
"Is everything okay?" Troy asked, ignoring Michael's question.
"Yes sir," Michael answered. "We were just thrown for a loop with what happened to you. But I am fine. And Kayla will be too."
Troy unintentionally narrowed his eyes. "She seemed fine when she first came to see me."
Michael and the Admiral stared at each other for a moment before Kayla entered the room again and broke the brief awkward moment between the two of them.
