Gisela surveyed herself in the mirror, her ice-blue eyes critically eyeing her blond hair that was in a long fishtail down her back. Today was her first day as a sophmore in a new high school. Apparently, it was called Everflare, or something like that. Maybe Serenvale?
I wonder who my classmates will be and what they'll be like, she thought.
It doesn't matter. As long as they leave me alone, it'll be fine. Her features twisted into a smirk.
She studied her reflection a second long. Gisela flicked off a stray eyelash, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and applied a light coat of beige eye shadow. She adjusted her black choker, pulled up her white socks, brushed a piece of dirt off her converses, and pulled her skirt down to the middle of her thigh. Satisfied, she headed down the amber-encrusted stairs, delicately holding the curling silver banister.
Upon entering the jeweled-columned dining room, she took a seat at the sapphire encrusted dining table in a ruby-encrusted chair. He mother was serving blitzenberry muffins, one of Gisela's favorites.
"How's my favorite daughter on the first day of a new school year?" Her mom trilled in a melodic voice.
Great. Her morning was now officially ruined.
Gisela rolled her eyes when her mother's back was turned.
"Cassandra, you know I'm your only daughter", She stated, hiding the snark in her tone very well.
"I'm so proud of you, my darling." Her mother replied as Gisela stood up, brushing crumbs off of her navy skirt.
"Yes, well, bye, mother!" Gisela called as she grabbed her bag, tugged on her sweater, and sauntered out of the door.
She distinctly heard he mother shout, "Have a nice day!" through the closed glass doors.
She scoffed to herself, then walked down the winding path to the sidewalk, and started down the two blocks to her new school. Along the way, she say many different things, from people with Custard Bursts to people on their Imparters to even people who were running back and forth through the busy market of Atlantis.
Two blocks later, her sprawling school came into view. The block letters at the top said, Foxfire High. Oh, well. She was close.
Gisela walked through the massive front doors, got her schedule from someone at the front desk, and walked around in slight awe.
When I'm older, I'm going to have a better place, she thought, eyeing the classroom doors.
She started down a hallway, and soon found her homeroom. Door number 220.
Gisela took a deep, calming breath, and set her hand on the doorknob.
Time to start a new chapter of my life, she mentally stated.
Then she turned the knob, and opened the door.
