It took us another 3 weeks to get back to Jackson. I didn't mind though, Ellie always made the journey worth it. I always admired seeing the determined look on her face when we travel outside of Jackson. Although our world is messed up, there is always beauty to find in it. My beauty is Ellie.
"If I wasn't so relieved that you guys aren't dead I'd be more mad." Is the first thing Tommy says to us before pulling me into a hug. Joel engulfs Ellie next to me and I look over Tommy's shoulder at her. Even though I feel Tommy hugging the breath out of my lungs, they're filled with so much air from my time with Ellie. Maria wasn't as nice as she gives me a light punch on the shoulder before also engulfing me in a hug.
"You're gonna be the death of me Lils." Maria sighs into my shoulder.
"I just- I needed that."
"I know." Maria sighs, "Just get some rest."
"Actually, I wanted to talk to you guys about something first." I say. This makes them stop in their tracks and look at me. Joel watches me next to Ellie and Ellie gives me an encouraging smile. We talked hours on the way back about this and it feels right, "Well... Ellie and I were wondering if we could move into a bigger house. Together."
"Together?" Joel asks. Both Ellie and I nod at them, "Well uh, if that's what you want." Joel replies lightly. I turn to Maria and Tommy and they look at each other before letting out a sigh.
"Well, we didn't think you'd want to live with us forever." Maria says. Tommy nods and I feel a smile stretch on my face as I pull them into another hug.
"Thank you."
Tommy nods lightly into my shoulder before pulling away, "We should get the house prepared. Just you go rest up and go visit the doctors to get your arm checked out." I give him a nod before motioning for Ellie to come with, "Uh Ellie. Just wait here I want to talk to you."
"Oh, uh, okay." Ellie tells Tommy before looking at me, "I'll see you later, yeah?" I give her a nod before throwing Tommy a look and walking over to the doctors to get a check up.

After I'm cleared I start making my way towards Maria and Tommy's. When I enter I go straight to my room and stop in my tracks when I look and see my walls are bare. Only my ukulele sitting on the bed.
"I wasn't sure if you wanted to take that with you or not." I hear Tommy say and I turn to him. He's leaning up on the door frame and has a sad look on his face.
"I don't..."
"Ellie came to us about this weeks ago. Why do you think we never went after you?"
"Uh... luck?"
Tommy chuckles, "No kid. Good guess though." He looks around the room slightly before clearing his throat, "Come on." I follow Tommy through my old house and out into Jackson County. I watch all of the children, wives, husbands, and people as they go through their daily routine. I give small smiles to everyone as we are making our way through the town. We stop in front of this cute house in the quieter area of town. I give Tommy a confused look as he motions me to go in. I walk up the steps and open the door into the most beautiful home. Adam and Alaina come up to me with big smiles on their faces. I give them a confused look before Alaina hooks her arms in mine before moving me towards the back.
"I know it's not really a thing anymore, but I call maid of honour." Alaina whispers into my ear.
"What?" I'm about to ask more before I look up and I see Ellie in front of me on one knee. I stop in my tracks and look at her confused.
"I, uh, I know it's a super old thing, and kinda super traditional, but I always wanted to be married." Ellie tells me sheepishly, "that's if, you agree." My mouth hangs open as I look around. Jesse, Dina, Alaina, Adam, Joel, Tommy and Maria are all here looking at me with soft smiles. I feel tears build up in my eyes.
"Where'd you get the ring?" I ask quietly.
"Joel." Is all Ellie says and I give her a small smile. I walk closer to her and see her start to get nervous as I grab her arm and pull her up to my height
"I always liked traditional." I tell her softly.
"Is- is that a yes?" Ellie questions.
"Of course it's a yes Ellie." I smile at her before she grabs my face and pulls me into a deep kiss.
I hear someone clear their voice and we break apart to look at Tommy, "Yeah. Father in law here."
I smile before grabbing the ring and putting it on my finger, "Now we just have to get you one." I tell Ellie softly.
"I don't need one."
"Yes you do. I want everyone to know that you're mine." I tell her softly and she smiles.
"Deal." Ellie gives me another smile before pulling me into the group of people. My family.
I look over at Ellie and am thankful, that even in this world, even with all of this pain and destruction, I still was able to find my security. I was still able to find the person who made me feel secure.
