"What would you want to do if we lived in the world before the infected?" I turn my head to face Ellie as she asks this. We are currently laying across the bridge in the small playground we have in Jackson. Our heads are next to each other, but we lay opposite ways.
"You promise not to make fun of me?"
"Eh maybe."
"A lawyer."
"Really Lils, a lawyer? You're like the least confrontational person I know."
"I know that, but it'd be cool. I could fight for people to have justice and I don't know, maybe make some sort of difference in the world." Ellie stays quiet at this, "well what about you? What would the great Ellie Williams do if she lived before the infected."
"I'd be an astronaut obviously."
"Oh yeah obviously." Ellie turns her head at me and smiles, I smile back at her and we just stay in this position, "You know I think you're my favourite person in the world- just don't tell Tommy or Adam that. They would be devastated."
Ellie keeps a small smile on her face as she looks around my face. They stop at my lips before she looks back into my eyes, "You're my favourite person too." We continue to smile at each other and turn back to look at the stars.
I jump up from the bed, panting from the dream, or really the memory. That was a few weeks before Ellie stopped talking to me. I sigh and look over at Caleb who is still asleep. I get out of his bed and throw on my clothes from last night and head over to Alaina's. I knock on her door and wait for her to open up.
"Hey there, had a good night?" She asks while she opens the door wider. I walk in giving her a quick punch in the shoulder.
"You mind if I borrow some clothes?"
"What the ones from last night not good enough?"
"No they reek and I'm not going home yet to change." Alaina smirks at me as she goes over to her closet and tosses me some clothes. I quickly get out of mine and put hers on, muttering a quick 'Thanks' to her while doing so. When I finish I look over at Alaina, "Come on let's grab some food." We head out and go to Seth's. When we enter Adam and Jesse are there already at a spot with some food. I walk over and take a bite out of Adam's sandwich.
"Hey! Get your own damn food."
"Why should I when yours is right here?" Adam rolls his eyes at me as Jesse leans towards me.
"So Lils, had a good night?"
"Eh it was okay."
"Just okay?"
"Yeah just okay. Caleb's hot, but really just mediocre in bed." Jesse laughs at this and leans back, "Poor bloke he was called mediocre by the leaders kid." I smirk at him and continue to eat Adam's sandwich.
"Well looks like I'm gonna go get a new sandwich." Adam sighs as he goes up to the bar with Alaina.
"So how are you and Dina doin?" I ask Jesse while eating my food.
"Okay. We're in a bit of a rough patch right now, but we'll work through it." I nod at him and we continue to eat our food. We talk lightly as Adam and Alaina come back to join us. When we are almost done Ellie and Dina walk in and come over to sit with us. Ellie next to Jesse and Dina sat next to Adam. Dina and Jesse don't make eye contact with each other- I guess it's more serious than Jesse led on. I look over at Alaina when we finished eating.
"Come on, we got patrol in an hour." Alaina nods her head and stands up, but before we can go Ellie speaks up.
"Actually Lily we uh got paired for patrol today."
