Secure// Ellie Williams

Sick

Ellie and I have gone to the library a lot. So far no one has noticed when we leave but when we do we are usually pretty discreet. A few times we went at night and slept there, but we were always back before anyone noticed we were gone. The library really did become a place for just me and Ellie.

"Hey Sweetpea." I turn and see Tommy come up to me. His arm goes around my shoulder as he pulls me into a side hug.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Just checking on you. Can't I say hi to my favourite kid?"

"I'm your only kid... unless you and Maria have some fantastic news for me?"

Tommy chuckles at this, "No. I just noticed you've been sneaking off with Ellie a lot, that's all."

"Yeah we're hanging out."

"Outside the wall?" I turn to Tommy and try to play off an innocent smile, but he isn't buying it, "don't even try Lils. You know we don't want you outside right now."

"I know bu-"

"But you're with Ellie and we trust her. And we like that you're finally bonding once again, but don't go anywhere you can get hurt and if you see infected you turn back and report it to us. Also, tell us when you leave so we don't walk in your room at night to you gone." I nod at Tommy with a smile. I jump into his arms to give him a hug.

"Thank you." I tell him softly and he nods. I get out of his hug and run to Ellie's. I just open the door since I know she doesn't mind and when I reach her place the sight I see is quite sad. Ellie is on her bed still in her pyjamas with a blanket scrunched up in her arms and her body is shaking.

"Els." I say softly as I approach her bed. She gives me a soft groan and I place my hand on her forehead, "aw Ellie you're burning up." She opens her eyes slightly as she looks at me rub her head.

"Yeah I feel like shit."

"You look like shit." 

Ellie chuckles, "I don't know what's funnier, the fact that you just swore or keep petting me like a dog." I move my hand off her head, "I never said I didn't like it." I sigh before resuming my previous movements. 

"You're such a baby." Ellie gives me a slight hmh as she closes her eyes again, "have you ate anything yet?" Ellie shakes her said saying no, "okay, I'm gonna go get you some soup." I stand up to leave but Ellie grabs my arm.

"I'm not hungry, just keep doing what you were before."

"Ellie you need to eat." Ellie just shakes her head again. I sigh, "Okay, at least drink some water though?" Ellie nods and I go over to the corner to grab her some water. I put the water next to her bed, "Ellie I need you to get up to drink," she groans as I take my arm and go under Ellie to help her up. I struggle since I'm doing it with only one arm, "I need your help a bit Ellie," Ellie then puts her arms around my waist and I help her up. God she is a suck when she's sick. Once she's up I grab the water and hand it to her, "drink up." She does slowly and I watch until she finishes the water. When she's done I grab the water from her and put the empty glass back on the counter. Ellie scooches a bit and I sit upright next to her on her bed. I lean my head on the wall and sigh. After a minute I feel a weight on me and I look down to Ellie laying on my stomach with her arms wrapped around my waist. Soft snores escape her lips. I smile down at her and continue to rub her head softly and run my fingers through her hair. I don't really have much of a choice on moving to I try to get as comfortable as possible before I lean my head to the side and fall asleep.

"So how'd you get your bite?" I ask Ellie while we lay in my room, "if you don't mind me asking."

"Uh I snuck out to a mall with my best friend Riley, we ran into a hoard of infected and we both got bit. We decided to wait it out and 'lose out minds together.' She did, but I never changed."

"I'm sorry Els." 

"Els?"

"Yeah, you call me Lils, I'll call you Els. It's cute."

Ellie snorts, "Okay, dork."

"Hey! You love it don't even lie."

"Mhm." I roll my eyes and push her shoulder. 

"You love me Ellie stop fighting it."

She just looks at me and says a small, "Yeah." I don't hear it though. I turn and smile at her, "I'm still gonna call you Els."

"Yeah whatever."  Ellie still smiles though.
