Why is there no progress?
It's Wednesday and there's still no report about anything from the West. I already make sure that I'll get any updates regarding the conflicts. Zero. That's the amount of news I got. Is there really conflict in the West?
George, Darren's secretary who currently mine, comes in with a new stack of reports for today. I appreciate his help although I know he doesn't like me. Well, he can hate me and stay professional. It doesn't really matter. Besides him, Jason walks in. This young knight has been appointed as my personal guards since Leo also left. He also acts as a person in charge as the messenger between me and the Northern military as I don't have any stands there.
"Why is there no news from the West?" I asked as I flip towards the document.
"It's only been a week. It's not easy to resolve conflict like that," Jason answered.
I stare at him in disbelief. It has been a week. It's plenty of time to negotiate or just fight back. Do you think it's cheap to fund a war? Doesn't the King want this thing to be over fast?
"Tell me the status," I instructed. "It's not like you can do anything about it," Jason mocked. "It's exactly because I can't do anything about it, so it won't bring any harm just to tell me about it, don't you think?" I gave him a menacing smile. I don't care if he acts hostile towards me. He just needs to answer my question as I am the person in charge. For now.
"We manage to scare them off," Jason starts with a scoff. "The alliances are breaking. We've witnessed the decreasing number of enemy soldiers, especially the smaller allies. They left. It would have ended if they are willing to surrender."
"They don't?"
"They stand their ground, especially their leader. We heard he's the best knight but I guess he's just dumb."
"What do you mean?"
"We have a sight of their camp. Even Though many soldiers are leaving, he doesn't care, he never leaves his tent. Why doesn't he just surrender, rather than dying for nothing."
"The soldiers are... leaving?"
"Well, we are going to storm there tomorrow. We already offered peace but they didn't take it. With their decreasing number, the win is absolute. He'll die, eventually. Along with every person beside him."
"You said the smaller allies are leaving right? How many... left?"
"They've decreased to half of their size. If we know that, we won't send our Northern soldier there. What a waste of time."
"Do you know... where did they go?"
"What-?"
"Where did they go? The soldiers who left, where did they go?"
"B-back to their countries, aren't they? There is no sight for them anymore and they are obviously losing it. It's a smart move actually. As long as they retreat we won't bring harm upon them," Jason says cautiously.
"Are you sure they went back? Do you have spies in their base? How can you be so sure?" I bombarded him with more questions. My head is running ahead hearing these. All the possible outcomes. It felt so nostalgic.
"Sir... can you explain... more?" Harry suddenly interrupts. He's been standing silently there. I also notice George questioning looks.
"Connect me with Darren," I said.
"S-sorry... what?" Jason startled.
"Can't you hear me? I need to contact Darren. Prepare it now!" I instruct fiercely. Jason only nodded and immediately rushed out.
"George, handle these and send those that need my approval to my room," I said pointing out today's work. "Sure," he briefly answered. I quickly stood up, put on my jacket, and rushed out from Darren's office.
For the first time in a while, I really hope I was wrong.
