She wasn't buying it.Either that or she was just being a wanker.
It was funny. When we first walked in, people turned to look at us, specifically, him, and the receptionist was dazed. It only took me to tell her that we were related to slap her back to reality.
She looked from him to me, to him, to me, to him then back at me. "He's your uncle?"
"Yes." I forced through gritted teeth. "He's my uncle, uncle Aaron."
She stared at me smugly. "If that's the case, why did you throw a tantrum when I said an adult is needed to supervise you?"
In a flash, I was angered all over again. "Because that rule is bloody stupid!" Not caring that people were looking at me, I continued. "You wanted an adult, I brought you an adult. Now are you going to give me my room keys or not?"
She frowned. "Not with that tone."
"You're a bloody receptionist! My tone is none of your fucking business!"
"Okay!" Aaron said behind me, taking a moment to apologise on my behalf. He held my shoulders. "Sarah? Sarah, honey, look at me. I need you to calm down. Don't worry I'll take care of it."
I looked up at him and he winked. I grinned internally even though I had no idea what he had planned. "Okay uncle."
He let go of my shoulders, turning his attention back to the receptionist. "What's your name please?"
"Olivia." She answered slowly, tentatively.
He raised a brow. "And does this Olivia have a last name?"
She was even more wary. "Pérez."
"Pérez." He repeated. "You're of Spanish origin correct?"
She nodded.
"Are you married?"
She nodded again.
He grinned. "Good. So you'll understand." He flashed a ring I had not noticed he had on. "So am I."
And then he started talking. Not in English no, in Spanish, rapid Spanish, which made my eyes bulge in awe and admiration. I had thought his Australian accent was fancy and buff, but him speaking spanish was a whole new level. I also have no idea what he is saying.
"Verá, mi sobrina no ha venido a visitarme en mucho tiempo. Ella extraña a su tío Aaron y mis gemelos la extrañan. Mi esposa es el problema. No le agrada porque no le agradan mi hermana y su marido. Sarah habría venido para quedarse conmigo, pero me casé con un psicópata y no se sabe qué le hará la mujer a Sarah mientras duerme. Si cree que mi sobrina es un problema," he looked over at me then back at her, "obviamente no ha conocido a mi esposa."
Whatever was said made look at me in pity and shake her head. I internally shrugged.
'Uncle' continued. "Cuando Sarah tenía cinco años, mi esposa y yo aún no estábamos casados, pero vivíamos juntos. Cuando era una niña juguetona, Sarah volcó su kit de maquillaje y ¿sabes lo que hizo mi esposa? Enchufó la plancha y quiso quemar la espalda de la pequeña Sarah como castigo, pero la detuve a tiempo, así que terminó quemándome a mí."
