The Crown
"Give it to me, what are you waiting for?" The witch asked anxiously. "You said I had three months to decide and the time is not up yet, I still have a week left," Manuel said, confusing everyone, including the witch, but she was not following allowing with his rubbish. "Nonsense, give me the stone or-
"Or what? You are going to force it out of my hands or kill me?" Manuel chuckled lightly. "Much worse than that, I will kill your people, destroy your cities, steal-
"Good grief, give me a break. How many times have we heard you say that? It is really starting to bore us now." Manuel yawned slightly as some of the soldiers moved back. Gabriella wondered what Manuel was up to. Jezebeth was not the kind of person to play around with. "You are tempting my patience!" She yelled.
"If you are offended it is simply none of my concern. You do not seem to care about what you do to other people, do you? No, you do not. Now thank you for your time. In just five minutes I have learned two things about you. Your weakness is the light, the sun." His words made Jezebeth and her dwarfs laugh. "Ahaha you cannot possibly be serious now boy. I am not a vampire, I am a witch."
"Witches love dark places, when you appeared to me in my dream, it was at night. When you killed my father, it was at night. And I think you wear that thick, long, black cloak in the day to protect yourself from the sun and then you roam around freely at night. Is that not right?" Jezebeth knew he was very right. That was why her face stiffened to every word.
"Now the second thing about you is your obsession for this stone and how it grows by the minute. I noticed that your eyes move with the stone. I think that this is what helps you stay alive." Manuel held up the stone for her to see. "This stone is your cure, isn't it? This is what makes you walk in broad daylight and gives you power and strength."
"Give... me... the stone or else your life ends here." Jezebeth threatened. "No need to throw empty threats, if I die then the stone surely will die with me because, by the time I take my last breath, I would have dropped the ore to shatter on this stoned ground. You speak of the killing the people, destroying the country, then stealing the stone but never doing anything to harm them. That is why you kept on asking my father for little pieces of it years ago. To help you continue to live."
"Wow, you have figured it all out. Good for you, now what do you want?" Jezebeth asked him, Manuel could sense the fear stirring in her heart. "Ask politely. That is all." Manuel said, surprising her. That was all Manuel wanted for Jezebeth to ask for something instead of demanding or taking it.
This felt strange for Jezebeth but if that was all she had to do to receive the stone then she had to give it a try. She cleared her throat and asked, "May I have the ruby stone please?"
Manuel nodded, giving her the stone with a smile. "Something has really changed since the last time I saw you," Jezebeth said. "Well, that something is love. Now I never want to see you again, enjoy your life." Manuel said before turning away from the evil witch. That was the end of her chapter. Manuel closed it without a second thought. It was time to worry about something else.
Two weeks later.
The royal supper organized by Rita was quite surprising. Close family and friends were gathered to celebrate the engagement of Prince Manuel and his fiancé Gabriella. It was held outside in the garden. With candles and flowers Aaron surprised everyone with gentle music from the pianoforte. He who had been taking private lessons from Gabriella's mother, Alba herself.
Manuel stood up, lightly tapping his glass with his spoon to get the attention of his family. "May I say how proud and overwhelmed by the love I receive from each and every one of you every day." He took Gabriella's hand and lightly kissed it. "There is a valuable lesson that I learned, that when each person loves the other as much as him or herself, it makes one out of many. And as I look around this place this lovely evening, I fully understand the meaning of that lesson. Because out of many, is one, you are all part of my journey. I spent the past few months confused and afraid, I almost gave up my life without thinking. But everything that the righteous king has done in my life was through each and every one of you seated here this evening. I am so grateful that I will never have to worry about being hurt, or alone again, thank you."
Everyone clapped and some cried, some as his mother and grandmother. Gabriella was the next one to stand up and give a toast.
"Mama, you made your way back to me and back into my heart. You continue to teach me and direct me just like you did many years ago. Mama, you taught me the principles of love and without those things, I wonder how empty I would be. Please be my maid of honor at my wedding mama?"
"Oh my child. I would want nothing more! I cannot be any more thankful and proud, through everything that you have been through. I still see the love of the righteous king reflected on you. You are beautiful, you are kind, you are everything I see in a future Queen." Alba, in tears, lifted a toast to her daughter as everybody clapped.
"I want to give my toast to you Emmanuel, your character and your heart have changed from red to white in a matter of months. People doubted you, they never thought that you would ever find a wife that suits you. A wife that will make you a better man. I know that the righteous king is real. I know that his son is alive because I see him in that beautiful, young girl sitting next to you. You will reign and it will be a long reign because you will be doing it with love."
After dinner, Gabriella and Manuel played a lovely duet on the pianoforte together, pleasing the ears of their loved ones. Some danced while others spoke, it was a quite ceremony before the big day. It was the best dinner that Gabriella had ever had, what was greater than sitting with family and close friends, surrounded by the love of the righteous King? The enemy had been crushed and destroyed. And there was a great wedding ahead of them.
