Destruction

Everything had been going well, if not fantastic, in a way Danny had never thought he would truly know, these last few months(years?) and even though he really wants to believe that nothing will ever change, he knows something will happen, it's a feeling in his chest, something telling him that change is coming. Phantom stayed with him as often as possible, and if he couldn't he brought him along to the meeting, slowly getting him used to the politics and such to the Zone, though there's not very much. His work load suddenly decreased early on in their relationship, the advisers he had being kicked out of the castle.

Some ghosts had not been very happy about that and come to the castle, arguing with Phantom and a lot of the guards for days, before Phantom finally sent them to Clockwork, and they had not been back since. Observants, as the other ghosts that worked in the castle called them, and Danny did not like them. He has a feeling they're responsible for whatever is about to happen. Danny also has another reason to dislike them. Being the mate of the King made them both Kings, and so if asked, a citizen would happily - or maybe not so happily, depending on who he asked - give him any answer that he so wanted. He had made the mistake - or was it? - of asking how bad the advisers had been. Several ghosts had come forward with pictures, all of them involving Phantom, some with bruises on his cheek or under his eyes, and even occasionally with him being thinner than before.

None of the images endeared Danny to the advisers, who should be glad they left before Danny knew or they might be more dead than they already are. Danny had recently gotten just as protective as Phantom as Phantom is of him. The ghosts of the zone found that to be both endearing and very sad. Their kings should not have to be fiercely protective of each other, but it is cute and rather adorable that they are. In particular, Johnny 13, Skulker, The Lunch Lady,  Box ghost and the Warden find the two to be a sign of hope and start looking for their mates again, searching the human world anywhere they get a chance.

Johnny finds his in a girl named Bell, who loves motorcycles, helping animals and she has a fire in her that causes her to argue - teasingly, though none of her dates ever fought back - with the person she's dating. Warden finds his in a young man, about 20 called Jack, who has a thing for rules - ignoring or bending them - and loves a guy in a suit. Skulker finds his in a young person - a neutral gender - who loves machines and men who can be vulnerable. Box ghost finds his in a young girl, who loves to play with cubes and detests having to pick up after herself. Lunch lady found hers in a young female, who loves to make food and even more so to taste test it. They all bring their mates back into the Zone, fully expecting - though they all know Phantom is nothing like Pariah - to be told they must send them back.

Instead, Phantom happily greets them all, and even offers to bless them so they may age alongside their ghost counterpart. The humans all happily agree, and with no further ado, they are now immortal, until someone does something stupid at least. The humans all get together - Danny and the other mates - to complain and bond over their ghost mates, and to also have some human companionship. None of them miss the living side, but they do miss certain people or at least connections with people. It is something purely human, but the ghosts all support their mates to go to this. As a matter of fact, Warden, Skulker and Phantom were the three to insist that their mates get together. They are all glad they went through with it, however, since their mates are now much happier, not that they weren't happy before.

However, even as Danny roams the castle, and leans against his mate, enjoying his warmth, he can feel it getting stronger, that feeling, and he just knows something is going to happen. If he knew exactly what was going to happen, he would've happily had the Zone evacuated somewhere on planet, but there was no warning and so the Zone is unprepared. Even as Danny and Phantom stroll through the castle, on their way for a date, as Clockwork realizes what's going to happen and ponders why it wasn't shown on the mirrors, a portal is opening on the other side of the Zone, something dangerous coming through.
