The night held them in a loving embraced. They were the darkness and all the life it held. Feared and forgotten warriors of old. Not good, not bad, but somewhere in the grey.

It was the next day and another day on the road. It felt like she had been wandering around for years, each step was taking weeks on end. She didn't know how far she had come or when it would stop, but she was bored and tired and missed her bed.
The trees were finally thinning, it was a relief to be out of the dense forest. Ahead looks like a clearing perhaps or a glade. As (y/n) drew closer, It was clear that it was neither. The firm ground had given way to a marsh of tall reeds, the soil submerged in water. The sunlight fell directly onto tree trunks and travelled into the water.
(Y/n) heart jumped, and she lunged forward, propelling her self at the pound. Her knees gave way at the edge.
The cool water looked beautiful, glistening in the light. On the surface, (y/n) reflection looked back. Robes were ripped and loaded with dried up mud, and there were streaks of dirt and sweat across her face. (e/c) eyes looked back, wide and glossy like glass mistakes.
(Y/N) peeled off her clothes. The dirt had seeped deep into her skin, it was a relief to wash. She slowly lowered her body into the cold water. Her muscles seized up at the icy temperature, it was a lot colder than she expected. But soon enough her aching body melted into the cool. After a good hour of scrubbing her clothes and body. (y/n) lay on the grass letting the water dry from her hair. Her dress was spread out next to her drying, the navy blue and musky brown fabric blended into the green grass.
She was wearing her spare dress, the white fabric was soft on her skin.
The sun kissed her body warm. At last, she felt at peace, her mind wasn't worrying about her father or her people like it silently would. Just being still and relaxed seemed to stitch up the cracks within.
The sun had started its descent, and the night was coming fast. The forest was calm right after the moonlight has touched the bright colours away. Just being there brought her soul into a sweet surrender, at one with nature, vibrant yet relaxed. Every fragrance was fresh, as the page of a new book. Each burst of birdsong was unique with a live chorus to steady the mind, to shake off whatever worries remains and to bring sleep. She watched the lake glisten, mirroring the dazzling assemblage of glittering stars. The faint wind brushed against the water's surface, the ripples ruffled the stillness and shattered the reflection of the night sky. Thoughts and dreams wander, lungs fill, time rolls by in its silent and endless way.
Then there was a rustling of leaves followed by a deadly silence.
That broke (y/n) rest not the owls or the wolfs or the strange footsteps but the quiet which followed. The girl sat up bone straight, listening out for the thing that caused everything to stop. Another round of footsteps came. She could tell there were around seven people all surrounding the glade. Fear slowly crept in, was it the end? She had only been away from home a short while, and it was already over.
"Hello?" She called out into the shrouds of fog, she should've known better than that. Every child knows to ignore the noises you hear in the woods.
