Charlyze’s POV

I woke up instantly as the car skidded into a halt. Combing my hair with my fingers furiously, I scrambled to get out of the car. The surrounding was familiar. Same old cottages lined up along the brick lane. Most of the houses were dark, insinuating that the family inside was still asleep, or was out hunting or on the scouting

My pack territory.

I wanted to yell ‘home sweet home!’ but somehow it didn’t feel right. I missed my pack territory. I never had any friends because most mothers won’t let their son or daughter play with me when I was a child. I was a bastard child without a father.  My mom gave birth to me without being marked and that was considered a serious ‘social’ problem, for the werewolves’ community anyway. Still, the place has a familiar earthy scent and it calms me.

Jarvis and Kian were out of the car as well. Their eyes trained on a body moving dangerously towards us. It was Marc, the beta of the pack and the most handsome guy in the pack too. He was alone.

“So you guys are the escorts?” Marc drawled lazily, sizing up Jarvis and Kian as if calculating whether he could take them both in a fight. Javier growled while Kian just grinned.

“Jarvis is the Gamma and Kian is one of the best fighters in their pack, you don’t want to tangle with them.” I offered with a teasing smile. Marc turned to me instantly and grinned. He made his way to me, with his arms stretched out, asking for a hug. Jarvis came to me to block him from getting closer, pushing me back behind him which I found funny but endearing.

“She’s taken, mister.” He scowled.

Marc took a long sniff of the crisp air and stated the obvious, “ she’s not marked.”

“Not yet but she will…”

“…till then she’s a free she-wolf and ... geez you two guys are together?” Still sniffing, Marc’s attention was grabbed by Javier’s and Kian’s obvious mixed scents. Kian gave a cute lopsided grin and Marc just rolled his eyes. Javier was unmoved. His stance was of a warrior waiting to attack or be attacked.

“Touch her and you’ll personally answer to Alpha Darriel.” He said in a low voice. His eyes were still dead set Marc. Marc just put up his hands in a sign of surrender and my heart warmed upon hearing the Alpha’s name.

“Let me just take you guys to the nearest pack café before I present you to Alpha Hans ok? He’s dealing with an important thing so you guys could have some coffee if you want. My treat.” Marc beckoned us to follow him. We trailed him on foot and walked on the old cobbled pathway that will lead to the café that I’ve always known since childhood.

While we were walking, Jarvis bent towards me and whispered to my ear, “Alpha Darriel wants you to have your phone with you all the time and he wants you to know that he regrets not coming here with you.”

He said those? Kian mind-linked his mate.

Our egotistical Alpha? No. I just made them up. Jarvis replied with a chuckle.

------

In the meantime, Alpha Darriel was still in his car, brooding over his decision to back off from Charlyze when the signs clearly showed that she's attracted to him as well.

Cursing under his breath, he picked up his phone...
