I accompanied Ryan to the Entrance Hall to his awaiting vehicle. The skies have grown a shade of deep blue which I recognized the amount of time I have spent in both the Situation Room and my own office on the case. The traffic beyond the White House compound has already begun to move and slow down at the same time due to traffic congestion. "Keep tracking the suspect Director Carey." I told him when he climbed into his car. "I'll have a meeting with my old friend."
I closed back the doors just as Bruce came down the stairs, cradling baby Vicky in his arms. He gave me a peck on my forehead when I reached him. "Sorry to keep you waiting." I say.
"I'd already had my fair share of leaving you alone on a few occasions, I'm sorry too." he said. "Especially when you're giving birth last month." I nodded as baby Vicky looked out from the bundle she's wrapped inside and cooed. "Your grandmother said that she's been crying for her mother for the last few hours." feeling sorry I took Vicky from him, gently cradling her in my arms. We walked up the staircase, his arm on my waist as we headed to my own office. "The White House is seemingly in a state of partial lockdown. Everything ok?"
"I don't know Bruce." I say. "There are two Tangos in the White House, hence the partial lockdown."
"I was reading in the bedroom. It must be the boys." Bruce explained, with a sigh. "I asked Dick to show them around while Daniel kept an eye on me."
"And one of them is called Jason?" I asked. "Because I swore that I heard a voice someone calling some guy's name, which is Jason."
"These two boys are very special. To be honest with you Isa," I looked at him with curiosity. "One of them is actually dead, and he was resurrected." a smile.
"Okay, okay, let me guess." I say, leaning against his arm. "Our mutual friend got him back."
"And what prize would you want from me then?" he said in a flirting tone.
"Um... what?" I asked back.
"Never mind." he said. Standing up together we departed from the office, walking towards the Entrance Hall. "So... anything I can know?" he asked.
"That night, I know you heard me speaking in Russian."
"How am I not surprised?" he said.
"I'm really not comfortable when you-" a loud crash was heard before I can finish my sentence. "-crash at my place for the night when your car broke down."
"What the heck?" Bruce asked. I held Vicky tight as Timothy appeared down the hallway, a pair of handcuffs on his wrist. On the second half of the handcuffs, was a man with black hair and a white streak. Bruce's figure stiffened as I looked on, I hope that he's not mad at Timothy.
"I caught him in the President's study ma'am." he reported. I looked at the intruder in silence until Bruce reached for my hand, interlacing his fingers with mine.
"It's fine." Bruce whispered. "You can... uncuff him." he told the Secret Service agent.
"I take it that he's your ward then sir." Timothy said, holding the set of keys to the handcuffs.
"It's fine." Bruce repeated, his voice still stiff. The Secret Service agent removed the handcuffs but kept his sidearm with him.
"It's time to go." Timothy reminded me. I nodded. The atmosphere was very tense as we walked down the stairs to the Entrance Hall. Daniel Watson, the Secret Service agent assigned to protect Bruce, is already waiting by the vice president's limousine.
"They'll be in another vehicle." the agent informed Bruce. "I handed them the coordinates to the vice president's residence." I already have all of my things, including the recording pen in the evidence bag, in my backpack when we prepared to leave.
Number One Observatory Circle
The vice president's limousine pulled up to the curb of the grounds of Number One Observatory Circle, the official residence of the Vice President of the United States. Bruce placed his winter coat on my shoulders when we walked towards the main door, taking my backpack. Timothy killed the ignition and joined us with Daniel when he opened the door. The agents each took a seat overlooking the door while Bruce and I headed upstairs. Luckily that the tense encounter didn't scare Vicky and I prepared to nurse her. "Bruce?" I asked while nursing Vicky. He looked at me in the eye. "Are you okay?"
"...Sorry, if I scared you." he says, sitting beside me and holding my hand.
"Who is he?" I asked.
"He's Jason, the one I told you that was resurrected from the dead." I nodded slightly as Vicky feeds from me. She then yawns after feeding, possibly having to wake up due to hunger. I hummed a lullaby for her to put her to sleep but she wasn't willing to sleep on her own tonight, as evident when I placed her back in her cradle. Smiling I reassured Vicky by holding her in my hands for a while.
After taking a shower together Bruce and I changed into more casual clothes and remained huddled together watching television. Grandma has been the de facto housekeeper since Vicky was born, often kicking me out from the kitchen when I came to help her, telling me to spend more time with my daughter. "And turning to international news Saudi Arabia has officially announced their plan to impose a travel ban on the war torn region of Afghanistan and Syria due to the intense fighting between the national forces and the infamous terrorist organization known as the Taliban. This decision has been made by the foreign ministry of the country with the consent of the King of Saudi Arabia." Anderson Cooper reported. "This decision however, faced backlash from the leaders of the nations affected by the said travel ban, as well as Saudi nationals with business interests in the countries. We will continue the story for any further developments." someone pressed the doorbell of the house, breaking the silence besides the news report currently playing on TV.
