This was not the plan. In no way was this anything like what the once great assasin had once envisioned themeselves doing. A comfy house, warm fire, and relaxing music. No. This was never what was meant to occur. So, how the heck did we end up here? Well we need to backtrack... by a lot.
Alex had never meant for this to happen. Heck they never knew this could happen. One moment he'd been finishing an assignment. The kind that got you recognition and lots of it for that matter. They'd been hoping to take a few more, just before going on vacation. The beach perhaps. Somewhere they could be as lazy as they pleased. In any cas that didn't happen... Clearly.
Sure, they'd become infamous for hunting down seemingly harmless people, but, in truth they always went for the kind who knew how to hide a few skeletons in their closet. Sometime the skeletons were literal and others a bit more figurative, usually though the figurative ones weren't much better though. Still, it didn't meant they expected something which on all accounts should have been impossible. Very impossible.
As much as Alex wanted to say it shouldn't have happened it had been in the job description. The thing is they didn't expect the genie warning to be real. Heck they never expected genies to be real. The kind that appeared in Aladdin and other legends. The kind that screwed you over. And they didn't expect for the genie to decide to be a total jerk.
So now he was stuck. The encounter had left him in a particualrly sticky situation to say the least. One in which instead of being a human with arms and legs he'd been shrunk. And turned into a fluffy abomination. On all accounts he should have been sneezing out of his mind considering that he was alergic to cats. And not the musical variety (although in is opinion they weren't much better).
Moreover, he certainly hadn't been expecting Stella. The small kid who as soon as she'd seen him had scooped him up, promising to never let him go. At the time he'd squirmed and protested. How dare she. He was a feared assasin, one that certainly never got cooed at. He was not cute, he was not fluffy, and he certainly was not a pet. Alex hated the look she gave him. One of adoration.
No this was most definately not part of his plan.
Yet, a month later he couldn't imagine anything different. The warm house, with a family that adored him. Yup, that was the best deal he could have asked for. Tom and Elena had protested but as he'd come to learn, one pout from Stella and they'd been convinced to take in the mangy cat. A cat that in all ways described who he'd once been, a stray with a sleek coat. The cherry on top is that he'd been turned into a black cat and yet was far from unlucky.
A click broke Alex away from his train of thought as he turned his head towards the door. Cocking his head to the side he saw Elena step into the house. She was a bit of a mess and she looked stressed. Rising Alex waltzed over toward Elena before brushing against her leg. For whatever unknown reason, he'd learned his humans liked that, it calmed his family. Setting down her keys she scooped him up before strolling to the kitchen, before putting him down on the counter. The little bell on his collar rung out as he stretched.
Watching over his human he made sure that she would not tip anything over. Thinking back Alex couldn't think of a time where he'd been this relaxed. Couldn't remember being this content. And while sure the agency had been looking for him it wasn't like he could do much. He was a cat and as far as he knew those didn't become assasins. He watched perplexed at the clumsiness with which his human moved around the kitchen. It went against everything he'd ever been taught. And yet, here she was content. She danced around gathering ingredients to make dinner while she waited for her husband to come home with their daughter who'd just finished her dance lessons.
Trying to focus Alex watches Elena dance. However, his thoughts keep circling back. Returning to the agency and what they knew. He'd been living with his humans, his family, for about a month and he wasn't about to let it go. Not now not ever. Deep in though he'd barely registered the turning lock and giggles coming from the front door. As the door opened he could see Tom and little Stella walking in. They laughed as they came in talking about whatever had happened at the studio today. As Stella beelined towards him Alex jumped down before being picked up by the little girl.
He purred in her embrace. It was warm and he fult all fuzzy, or fuzzier. Nuzzuling against her as she began to talk about her friend Rosie and the leaps and turns they'd learned that day. In that moment Alex couldn't have cared less about the agency or the flipping genie that had caused this entire mess. An assain turned cat. He could have never imagined such a ridiculus situation if he tried. And this was never part of his plan.
Yet in that moment Alex just focused on the warm feeling of Stella's embrace, the muffled voices of his humans and the smell of the dinner cooking in the kitchen. And he knew. Dispite it all. Despite the odds and what he'd done. He'd found his humans, his family. In that moment he knew he'd fight tooth and claw to stay that way. A stray black cat with a loving home. He purred as Stella cooed at him, because in that moment nothing else mattered.
