Chapter 2 - Danger all around

Later that evening the car finally comes to a stop at a farm. Shawn and Chet get out of the car and Chet says "Well got to get back to my Muma see later Shawn and nice to meet you Lee and Clementine" Lee nods his head and Chet runs off. An oldish man comes running out the house and grabs Shawn into a hug he says "What took you so long son?" Shawn says "We got stuck in a road luckily this man was here to help us out who knows if we would of got out of that mess" the man says "Hmm, well that's good then" Lee then says " Your son is a lifesaver man, I mean it", the man then says "And who might you be? Looking down at Clementine, Shawn says "Oh he's her babysitter because her parents are away" the man's eyes go inward as if he is thinking is this true, he then says "Young lady do you know this man?" Clementine says in a quiet voice "Yes". The man says "Well okay then" he looks down at Lee's leg and says "Oh that looks bad let me come have a look at it on the porch". They all head up there and Lee sits on a chair and the man kneels down in front of him, while Clem stands against a wooden post, Shawn says "I am going to go check on my sisters and he goes into the house. The man then says "So what did you say your name was again?" Lee says "Lee, the name is Lee" the man replies with a nice manor "Well nice to meet you Lee, I am Hershel Greene and this here is my farm, by the way how did you get this injury anyway?" Lee replies with "It was a car accident" Hershel says "Och that must of hurt, where were you heading off too" Lee says "Out of Atlanta" Hershel says "Hm the news says to stay" Lee replies with "Yeah that's a mistake" Hershel then asks "You in your own car?" Lee says "No a police officer was giving me a ride" Hershel in a serious tone "Oh how awfully nice of him" Lee says "I am an awfully nice man" Hershel then changes the subject once he has finally patched up Lee's leg and says "Well my house is all full up of my own and I've got another family who are in the barn, you can join them in there for the night". Lee then said "Thank you" and Hershel says "So little girl what's your name then?" Clem in a quiet nervous tone says "Cle.. Clementine" Hershel says "Nice to meet you Clementine" Shawn then comes back out with his sister Maggie and they both say "Dad we need to re-enforce the fence tomorrow, its getting worse out there". Hershel dismisses them saying "No there is no need, we are far away". Shawn then says "Lee tell him how bad it was out there" Lee then buts in and says "Yeah your son is right its not getting any better out there" Herhsel says "Fine whatever you want to do, do it but tomorrow everyone get some rest".  A bit later on inside the barn Clementine and Lee are laying on mats with a pillow on the barn floor and Clem says "It smells like.." and Lee interrupts saying "Shit" Clem then says "Swear" quickly and Lee says "Sorry I shouldn't swear like that but you need get some sleep now Clem". They both head to sleep. As Lee is sleeping he begins hearing voices, its his wife screaming "No" and a man saying "come on then give me your best shot" Lee then wakes up instantly and breaths really heavy he then relaxes and gathers himself and looks over at Clem and heads back to sleep.

Lee opens his eyes and looks up to see a man standing in front of him with Clementine just to the side. He says "Hey get up" Lee begins to rise to his feet and looks over at Clem who is scratching her arms viciously, she says "Itchy, why is it so itchy" in a scared tone. The man then says "Well little lady you just slept in a barn, you're lucky you haven't found any spiders in your hair" Clem gasps and jumps pulling at her hair. A smile goes across the mans face and he says "I bet your daddy here managed to scare them all away so I wouldn't worry about it" Lee says straight after "I'm not her dad, the names Lee" the man replies with "I'm Kenny" and puts his hand out to Lee, Lee shakes it and Kenny says "The word is you were on your way to Macon". Lee replies with "Yeah my family is from there" Kenny responds quickly with "Well that's good then, Macons on the way to where we are heading and personally I'd appreciate the company of a guy who can knock a couple of heads together if there is any trouble" Lee responds with "Yeah sounds like a good plan but let me check with the girl here just in case" Lee turns to Clem and crouches down he says "Clem we have been offered a ride out of here and to Macon? What do you think?" Clem nervously nods her head in agreement.

A little boy then runs over to the barn door with another girl much older, he says "Dad Dad come help work on the fences" Kenny says "Alright Duck i'll be right over go wait by your mother". As Duck and the other girl run away Lee says to Kenny "Duck you are going to have to explain that one?" Kenny laughs and says "Well it's cause he is always full of energy and running about but to be honest it's also because he's as dumb as anything, his real name is Ken Jr".

Lee, Kenny and Clem all walk over to the haystacks where Duck and two other women sit. Kenny then opens his mouth and says "this is my wife Katjaa" Lee says "Hi there my name is Lee" Katjaa replies with "it's nice to meet you Lee who's the girl?" Lee says "Her name is Clementine" Katjaa says "What a beautiful name that is Clementine" Clem blushes nervously and says "Thank..you" in a quiet voice" then Duck interrupts jumping up and down saying "Dad come on let's go do some building" the girl next to him says "Don't worry Kenny I will take him to my brother" Lee quickly says before they walk away "What is your name? I know your other sister is called Maggie so who are you?" the girl stops and turns saying "The name is Beth" and they continue to walk away.

Lee and Kenny then walk over to his truck, Kenny says "So Lee are you sure you can manage looking after that girl, have you got kids of your own?" Lee replies with "No I haven't always wanted to though, don't worry I will take care of her" a smile goes across Kenny's face and he says "Good no place for a girl so young to be alone in a world like this" Lee says "Yeah it's crazy out there, what have you seen?" Kenny head goes down and his eyes frown he says "A lot, we saw two little girls around the same age as Clementine standing at the side of the road as we were packing, I don't know if they were those monsters or not but some man gunned them down without a thought it's getting crazy out there" Lee eyes go wide clearly distrubed by that story he says to Kenny "Dam man that's horrible, things definitely don't look good" As soon as Lee stops talking a man comes out of the house and walks up to Lee and Kenny and says "right lads I've come to help with this van", Lee and Kenny look at each other and Kenny says "Err.. who are you?" the man replies with "Oh where are my manners, my name is Richard I am Hershels brother". Kenny says "Oh okay, I don't really need any help but I am sure they do over by the fences" The uncle nods his head and walks off. Lee says "Strange man" Kenny nods in agreement.

Suddenly a huge bang is heard from across the farm, it seems as though Duck has driven the tractor into a tree and knocked half the fence down but before anyone can react a group of monsters come walking up through the grass they head for the gap. Richard runs straight over to Beth and Duck and grabs Beth away telling her to go get Hershel and Maggie, she runs away. Kenny and Lee begin to run over but they are a little distance away. As they get over they see Shawn trapped under the wood and Duck on the tractor. The monsters turn towards them both and Richard shouts "Shawn watch out" and then a huge crunch is heard with a long agonising scream.
