Prior to the story starting, Tom, Tord, Matt, and Edd were all living together and about two months before the first chapter Tom and Tord started dating and moved out. Leaving Matt and Edd on their own. This also all takes place in London unless stated otherwise
The first 8 chapters span out over about 4 months of time, from there It's pretty messy time wise.
