Chapter 8 - Day 6|Day 7 / Cheating death

KYLE'S POV

Andito ako ngayon sa bahay. Nakaharap sa computer. Iniisip at pinag-aaralan kung paano tatakasan tong pinasukan naming gulo.

Inopen ang google sa isang tab. Nagsearch at nakakuha ng napakadaming sagot sa tanong ko. Pero, isang sagot ang pumukaw sa atensyon ko.

"The phrase cheating death is commonly used to describe the manner in which a person avoids a possibly fatal event or who prolongs their life in spite of considerable odds. A person who cures themselves of cancer without chemotherapy, a person who avoids by a narrow margin falling off a cliff or building or being shot or stabbed, or a person who survives hospitalization in critical condition in spite of a poor prognosis from doctors all might be described as having "cheated death". In Greek mythology, Sisyphus cheats death by tricking Persephone to let him return to the world from Tartarus.

Although it is difficult to find information about the origin of the phrase, it may be related to anthropomorphism of death, more commonly known in English-speaking cultures as the Grim Reaper. Such personification has also led to a wide variety of pop-culture references, perhaps most notably being the depiction of death in Ingmar Bergman's film The Seventh Seal, in which a knight proposes a wager with death over a game of chess. In the film the knight comments that he knows death plays chess because he's seen it in paintings, possibly in reference to a medieval painting of death playing chess which hangs in Täby Church in Sweden. Playing chess offers the knight an opportunity to cheat. The popularity of Bergman's film has resulted in many parodies and may be responsible for the popularity of the idiom "cheating death"."

In short, we just need to avoid everything that comes in our way. We need to be careful. Everything can be cheated.. but it's not full proof that you're gonna win.

Napatingin ako sa cd na nakapatong sa tabi ng computer table ko. Ang cd.Kinuha ko agad ito at sinalpak sa laptop ko.

Pinanood ko agad ito. Nakalagay sa cd na ito ang pagkamatay ng batang aktor sa palabas na 7 days to hell. Pinakita dito na nasira ang safety ng bata mula sa kanyang pinagbibitinan. Hindi naman ito napansin ng mga direktor dahil akala nila ay umaakting lamang ang bata. Narinig kong sumigaw ang nagkukuha ng video na ito. At sinasabing namamatay na ang bata kaya gad agad na lumapit ang mga tao sa bata para iligtas ito. Ngunit huli na nga ang lahat.

Biglang pumasok sa isip ko ang sinabi ni Marie at nung Thea.

"May sumpa ang movie na yon.."

"May batang namatay sa shooting ng '7 Days to hell'"

"Kinagalit ito ng mga magulang ng bata."

Napatayo ako sa kinauupuan ko at naptakbo papunta sa bahay nina Zach. Paniguradong andun ang tropa.

Pagdating ko sa bahay nila Zach, agad akong dumaretso sa garden dahil sinabi ng isa sa kanilang maid na nandun sila.

"Guys.." bati ko agad sakanila.

"We need to cheat death."

"We need to cheat death."

"A-Anong ibig mong sabihin?" tanong ko naman.

"Sa seventh day, walang lalabas ng bahay. Dun siya magpapakita. Dun niya tayo papatayin." diretsong sagot ni Kyle.

"Kyle, hindi tayo mandadaya. Kelangan natin to laruin ng patas. Mali nga lang ang napiling kalaro niya, dahil di tayo papatalo." sabi ni Phillip.
