The universe we dreamt was never achievable. She was a computer game on easy mode-where cheats and mods were already programmed into life. There were no financial worries or disapproving extended family. We had all the time in the day for each other. Fires never burned the house down and the cold never made us sick. Our universe was an experiment with no independent variables-nothing to change the desired outcome. We wanted a perfect world that couldn't sustain reality-even in our own minds. We know the tangible universe too well. We can't leave the doors unlocked and hope the neighbors don't come in. We can't leave the walls bare of fire alarms. Money can't appear by tapping in a keyboard. We need to work and we won't always have time to make this work. We don't have the option to age in slow motion or live immortally. We could work and create our universe all we wanted but that doesn't change the fact that in this one we will never work.
