“Breath darling, this is just a chapter
Not your whole story ”Myung-He's pov
These hallways are always thronged with students but now students were back home the corridors and rooms struck with an enigmatic melancholy as they swimmed in the evening yellowish glow.
“Jeongguk, how do you know Seara is married?” I asked him as we walked through the academy’s silent corridor and my voice echoed.
“You didn't look carefully, Myung. If you were then you will find a ring on her fourth digit on the right hand.”
“I know you're smart Ghuk, but this time you're simply a fool”
“Why would you say that?”
“Jeongguk, you don't know about women. There is no guarantee it's a wedding ring, it could be something Taehyung gifted her.”
“Maybe you are right. See you can be put to use sometimes”
“Gguk, why are you going this way?” I looked around the cherry trees and the path leading to the back of the academy.
“Let's go to the old dormitory.”
“No!” I don't want to see the building.
“Come with me. We have to investigate Myung.” Joengguk held my hand.
"Myung, Why do you think we got the information from our library about them easily?"
"Because they are part of the faculty," I just remember.
"Love between a student and a teacher is not allowed. Oh how difficult it gets any further."
Dumbfounded, I found myself pulled all the way back to the old dormitory.
The building didn't look dark and ominous in the bright midday sunlight. But there at the window where I had seen the light there were dark burn marks, where the fire had leapt out of the window. That itself was frightening.
A flashback of that night suddenly went through my head but I was instantly drawn back to reality by Jeongguk's voice.
"Mr. Jung Hoseok." He was talking to a man.
Where Gguk had been looking, there was a middle aged man in grey coveralls with a number of younger men dressed the same.
They noticed Gguk as well.
"Hey Jeongguk," He raised a hand familiarly.
"Who's that?" I asked quietly
"The property manager Jung Hoseok."
"Property manager?"
I still didn't get it after he told me.
The man was smiling brightly as he stomped over to us with his stable steady legs.
"It's been a while hasn't it?"He smiled congenially.
"Yes it's been so long, I hope you've been... Well you seem well." Jeongguk was friendly.
"Ha ha ha as if you need to ask," Jung Hoseok laughed heartily. "Oh hello" he greeted me by Gguk's side.
"Ah hello," I hurriedly replied.
"Is she your friend Jeongguk?" he asked.
"Yeah I am." I replied before Joengguk.
I guess we are friends as well so it wasn't really a lie. I'm not disappointed entirely.
“So you don't love Jeongguk?” He asked me. I felt awkward with this old man’s prying eyes.
“I— I do, I mean I don't hate him.”
Gguk looked amused when I struggled to find an answer to the old man's question. Idiot. He enjoys it when I fall into a situation like this.
"Mr. Jung Hoseok can we start now?" one of the workers asked, carrying a long thin tool that I didn't recognise.
"yeah please do," Jung Hoseok answered.
"You're surveying?" Gguk asked, surprised. "Is the building being sold?"
"That's right," Jung Hoseok said, sounding like he had mixed feelings on the matter. "It was really sudden and to tell the truth I'm a bit perplexed by it."
"You're actually caring for the property on behalf of the town right?"
"The owner Seok Manoban entrusted it to us."
"Are they building something new here?"
"Some company from Tokyo wants to build a research facility. They're going to tear down the building and build their centre as a part of Bangtan academy." Jung Hoseok turned to face the building. When I watched his side profile he looked mysterious to me.
"I suppose it's impressive that it's been left standing this long. After Mr Kim died Seok Manobal inherited it but this place can't hold very many good memories for her."
"Mr.Hoseok you know a lot about the Kim family don't you?" Gguki's eyes sparkled.
"Well, that's because I was born and raised here," Jung Hoseok looked embarrassed.
"This place was already abandoned the first time I came here. Did something happen?"
Jung Hoseok nodded, seemingly he could talk about it.
"It's been about forty years now. I still remember how dreadful was the sight” Mr Hoseok's eyes glazed with tears.
It was a hard subject to talk about but he told us to follow him as he sat under a willow tree inside the building garden.
He sat and exhaled deeply. He adjusted the grey coat and became ready to tell the story.
It was the story I was searching for.
A story I was earning all along
Yet I felt the dread.
“Once this building was lovely and enchanting. Living with Kims I thought life was a beautiful dream until on an unfortunate night it emitted dark grey smoke and ashes”
“Mr Kim's son died in a fire that broke out due to reasons that's still unknown. We all guessed it was some fire circuit issue in that room” Hoseok gaze followed us to the room on the second floor where I had seen the red flame. He has a handsome side profile. I thought that lots of ladies must have loved him in his younger days.
I couldn't see his face and My heart began to pound fastly and impatiently.
“At the time we got here it was too late. There were only a few students who were allowed to live inside this dormitory at that time. Well, in the beginning young master want the whole building to himself but his father convinced him to accommodate few kids of his friends, yet that side of the wing was entirely reserved for young master”
Mister Jung Hoseok let out a deep breath and the willow tree quivered from the breeze. We both were curiously listening to his every word.
He looked from the building and slowly faced me with his dim, aged gaze.
He isn't mysterious anymore. I could read him like an open book.
He isn't grateful to survive the world like he is tired of carrying all the burden on his shoulders. His eyes speak of loneliness and sadness of loss as he talks with his gentle voice.
“It was only a beginning to a tragic night. On the same night of that fire Lisa Mahobal’s fiancé was found dead on the nearby wood.”
I felt the weight of regret in his words.
