I went back to my hostel room after dinner. Sure enough, minutes after me and my roommate Kirti heard this bog guy slugging our door, as if he was trying to break it down. Behind the slugging we could hear the voices of 4-5 other people, the exact words not audible , but they were clearly discussing what they wanted to do.
Kirti decided to open the door. Raghav and 2 other guys walked in. One of the other guys was Divyanshu, the other was another of Raghav's friends. Raghav looked furious.
"Say what you want, but don't pick any fights okay", warned Kirti.
Raghav did not wait, he immediately started shouting at me, with great furiousness. he was extremely angry at me for spreading what he called fake stories about him.
"This is the douchebag, right", said his second friend.
"Yes", he answered, "record everything he says like he did to me", he ordered. "My limit has been breached!", yelled Raghav as he stomped over to the bed in front of me. "I could explain this lie to a few people in the beginning, but its gotten too far", he complained. "Its like he's trying to destroy me!", he exclaimed, shooting his finger at my face even though I was only like 3 feet away.
Both his friends flipped out their phones and started recording, which was something I had expected. The next phase was shouting me down about spreading fake stories about him. "This bhenchot send not 5 but 10 people to beat me up and tells 4th year seniors fake stories about me!!".
According to them, the amount of money he took kept changing, (it wasn't my fault those guys were bad at remembering numbers). They asked me to tell them the entire story, and kept constantly sneering and laughing at the details as if it was absurd that their benevolent and kind friend Raghav would ever do such a thing. Still, I couldn't afford to lie, even though it was a massive lie in their eyes, since they too were clearly tricked by Raghav's fake personality.
As I reached the end of the story, which was long for their tastes, they asked Raghav about the computer shop. This time Raghav remembered exactly which shop it was, his friends had clearly advised him to do some searching to find out its name, which he had previously not bothered to know.
"If we go back to the shop and the shop owner says he gave the money in your hands we will kill you", his friend warned.
He wasn't wrong, Raghav had given the cash back to me in the shop, then took it for himself on the way back home. It was part of the agreement to fool the shop people because back then I was still in on the whole magic thing, meaning still too scared stiff of it to think.
It took me a second to realize that Raghav, despite clearly being advised to remember the name of the shop, wouldn't actually want to go back there. Reason being it would be dead obvious that he had flat out lied to the shop people that my laptop was perfectly functional when its audio wasn't working, and it would also be clear that me having an extra laptop was also a lie. The two easily uncovered lies would be a dead giveaway to the people in the shop that Raghav was an unreliable source of information and not to be trusted, and that the fairly far out story of me using the selling of that laptop to frame him of fraud and extortion was not to be believed. Of course, Raghav had no choice but to lie to his friends and leave out stuff like this.
"Who did you tell this story to!", shouted Raghav at the top of his lungs, though he was 2 feet in front of me. "I want all their names, all of them!!", he screamed. Exclamation marks are an understatement to the sheer amount of anger and loudness in his voice. I took out a piece of paper and started writing all the names down. With each name he would shout, "Who else, who else!". He literally shouted at me for every name like I was a rabid dog, and I was equally angry at him. His face would boil every time I mentioned the name of anyone he knew. It was his fault I ended up telling several of his acquaintances about this story when he picked a huge fuss with Divyanshu and his pals for all his friends to see.
"Wow!", he exclaimed as I continued the list. "How many people did he say this to!", Raghav looked shocked. His friends were equally surprised. After the list of about 40 people, Raghav circled the names of Maninder, Aditya, Naman and a couple others. The ones he perceived as having the worst intentions against him.
Raghav left the room, and I was interviewed by Divyanshu for some time. At that time, Raghav started challenging me to a fight from the hallway. Kirti, who had already prevented him from attacking me when I was listing the names, discouraged him. Yet he kept on, begging to fight with me as if he was gonna be payed or something. I joined in in discouraging him, I was afraid to fight someone twice my size. Kirti later told me that he was scared I would go completely feral in a fight with him and rip out his eyes and bite him and shit.
In a couple minutes he quite challenging me to the fight, but he wasn't done. He then got in a senior students who scolded me for saying things about him without any concrete proof. and he himself along with his classmates stayed up late at night in my room yelling at me. Refusing to sleep. Twice he tried to pick up a water bottle and a perfume bottle to hit me with, Kirti stopped him. He threatened to break my bones with boards if anything more came out. And for the finallie he got in his leather jacket friend Sumit Nanda who pretended to be senior to him (he wasn't senior but seemed like it as he was much more composed then Raghav).
Raghav and his friends shouted at me for nearly 5 hours, till almost 2:30 at night. Raghav managed to be fuming and on the edge the entire time, and even after he was led out of my room at 2:30 he kept banging my door to be let back in.
"You know what they are kind of right", said Kirti after they left, referring to my lack of proof. "Just don't go around saying anyone is a criminal". "We know Raghav is, but the fuss isn't always worth it". Kirti then soon went to sleep.
