Bucky, however, said nothing but looked to the ground. Pia drew closer to him and reached for his hand.

"Please don't be mad at him. He was just trying to make ends meet."

She tried hard not to cry.

"It's all right, Pia. We won't be angry. "

"No, you have to promise. "

"Okay, we promise", Nat assured.

Pia once again looked at Bucky, who pressed her hand tightly.

"He. . . "

"Let me say it, Pia. "

"Are you. . . "

"Yes, I'll be fine."

He took a deep breath once.

"I. . . didn't have any money. I was alone and didn't know exactly what was going on. So I had to do the only thing I was good at. I've been working as a hitman again."

Everyone could imagine what would follow now.

"Someone hired me to kill Pia. I was the one who did all this to her."

Now a tear ran down his cheek.

"It wasn't until I got to know her here that I stopped trying to do it and quit."

No one dared to say anything. The same thoughts went through everyone's mind. Why did he do that? Why did she forgive him and how could she be with him? Pia had now firmly held Bucky in her arms.

"It's okay, Bucky. I forgave you", she whispered in his ear.

He clasped her even more tightly. Pia finally looked up at the others.

"What are you going to do now?"

Steve sighed.

"Nothing."

"Nothing", Tony asked in shock. "He's. . ."

"She forgave him, he's done with it. We should just forget about it."

Then he just walked out of the room.

"Steve, you promised it", Pia called after him.

The others, however, did the same over time. Pia and Bucky, on the other hand, remained seated tightly wrapped in the conference room.
