The two made their way back to the first floor. Bucky decided to bring Pia some candy. While he searched for them, she could at least think about what had happened. He knew that he should rather wait and talk to her the next day or even the day after that, but he just couldn't wait anymore. After all of the nice words, Pia had said to him earlier, his doubts had disappeared and he realized that he shouldn't run away from his feelings any longer. He still thought he didn't deserve her but if she decided to be with him, he wouldn't try to talk her out of it.
When he found the candy he wanted to bring her, he took the huge bowl and went to knock on Pia's door.
"It's open."
Slowly, he opened the door a little bit and looked into the room.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"I..ehm brought you something."
He opened the door completely so that she could see the bowl. She smiled but he could tell that she was embarrassed about the previous situation. Yet it made him happy to see her smiling again.
She tapped lightly on the seat next to her on the bed. Bucky sat down and then put the bowl between Pia and himself. Pia reached for a Mars bar, opened it, and started to eat. Bucky was watching her. He started to smile automatically. Pia was happy to see him smile in her presence.
"What", Pia asked after a few minutes, pretending not to notice Bucky staring.
"What you said in the library... you really mean it, don't you?"
Pia swallowed the rest of the candy.
"Every single word."
Now Bucky smiled even more. Pia was pretty sure she had never seen him that happy before, not even when they had a flour battle in the kitchen.
"I know I said I didn't deserve you and I still think I don't and that a relationship with me can get very complicated, but if you're sure you can handle it and you want to, I'd be very happy to call you my girlfriend."
Pia had expected everything but certainly not this. She was very surprised. A big smile spread across her face.
"Is that your way of asking me to be your girlfriend?"
Bucky nodded slightly. Pia smiled even more and finally nodded as well.
"I would love to be your girlfriend."
Bucky also smiled when Pia suddenly hugged him. Only now did he realize how much he had missed her. He held her tighter. Finally, he let Pia go and he already felt emptiness. He knew that he would never let her go again. Pia didn't move away from him as expected but sat directly in front of him. They just looked into each other's eyes until Bucky leaned forward and locked their lips together in a simple but tender kiss. Pia smiled into the kiss. She didn't feel anything at this moment except her love for him. They broke the kiss eventually. It was then they realized how much they needed each other. Pia put the bowl onto the table next to her bed and then hugged Bucky again.
"Will you stay tonight?"
Her voice was one shaky whisper. Bucky, however, did not answer but slid back against the bed, made himself comfortable, and took Pia in his arms. She laid down next to him. She felt his steady breath and listened to it a little. For the first time in her life, she had the feeling of loving someone. Actually the second time; her parents had been there.
Bucky could hardly believe his luck. There was no danger, no threat just his love for Pia. He smiled to himself.
"I love you, Pia."
Carefully, he looked down at her but she had already fallen asleep. Yet he knew that she loved him too. He could have watched her sleep for hours, she looked so peaceful, but slowly he also became tired. He fell asleep and for this moment, he was truly happy.
