The sound of the tube's metal wheels scratching their way through the rails of the endless length of underground feasted my ears.
The London underground had a very specific sound. You could ride the subway in almost every city in the world, but the sound of the London tube slowly making its way into the station was unlike any other.
"I really missed this." I told Lucas as we took a seat across from each other after the tube opened its doors and stopped at Heathrow Terminal 5 station.
"Me too. And I never thought I'd get to say this."
I was so happy to be back in the city where my love story started.
I was heading to the capital of England on my book tour but we were obviously staying for a little longer than just two days so we could properly enjoy being back in our home.
Of course being back in London, it was a no brainer that we were going to stay with Melanie and Lexi. We also haven't told Lucas' sister about the pregnancy and we both agreed we wanted to tell her in person instead of via a Skype call, so we chose to wait until now to let her in the know.
The next stop is Hampstead. This is the Northern Line service to Edgware.
The voice of the lady on the speakers caught my attention. That voice was a constant on the London Underground, always reminding people where they should make their stop.
"This is us." I told Lucas as I got up from my seat and made my way to the small hall in between the two doorways, with him following right behind me.
When the doors opened and we left the station, we were confronted with the cold, chilling breeze that only this country could offer.
I adjusted the scarf around my neck to bear with the icy air that clung to me, and grabbed the trolley of my small bag to walk towards Melanie's house.
I wasn't showing yet, so there was no way Lucas' sister could tell I was pregnant before we actually got to tell her.
The second we rang the bell we could hear Lexi's happy squeals on the other side of the door and Melanie's steps getting closer.
When the emerald front door slid open, we were met with a little girl jumping up and down and a very happy Melanie.
I stood on the side while I watched the adorable interaction between the two siblings.
Melanie had her blonde hair messily tied into a bun and she had on light blue mom jeans and a beige sweater that rose a little while she got on her tiptoes and wrapped her arms around Lucas, in a tight hug.
I couldn't hide my smile as I saw the two of them smiling into each other's shoulders.
I hated that I was an only child and every time I witnessed these two share such a huge amount of love for each other, I hated it even more. But Diane was pretty much like a sister to me, I was so glad to have her in my life.
After Melanie, it was Lexi's turn to have her time with her uncle.
Watching the two of them interact was always so sweet and it always made my heart do a little backflip but now.... Now I had tears forming in my eyes and butterflies flying inside my stomach.
I never had any doubts that Lucas was going to be a good father, that being a dad was one of the things that he was born to do, but every time I saw him with Lexi I had a little reminder of that, and while carrying his child, that caused my emotions to get the best of me.
