Nicole
My phone's ringtone interrupted the jingles of the generic Christmas song playing through the speakers. With my hand in my bag, I found the vibrating phone and answered the incoming call.
"I'm the one who needs your advice right now."
"Hello to you too."
"God, Nic would you just listen to me? This is an emergency!"
Diane was in a rush to talk, and as her best friend, I obviously did the best thing to do in that moment - I made my way to the check out station at the beauty section of Selfridges where I was spending my Thursday afternoon doing some Christmas shopping, and quickly found a table at the food court.
"What happened?"
"So, you know Trevor?"
Ah, Trevor. The man who was head over heels for Diane and who treated her like the queen she was.
When I left her office she had a girl named Brianna to fill in for me while I was gone, and the amount of times Diane complained about her should have been a good indicator that she'd need to look for a new assistant after firing the red headed girl.
That's when Trevor came into the picture. He came in for an interview on a Monday morning and by the end of the week they were already "having earth shattering sex in her office", direct quote from Diane.
He dressed like the CEO of a massive corporate company and he had the looks of a runway model. Oh yes, I've seen the pictures.
"Yes."
"Well, we're not just fooling around anymore."
"What do you mean?"
I knew Diane was down for any kind of opportunity for him to make her legs shake at the end of a day, but something more serious than that? My best friend wasn't looking for that. At least I thought she wasn't.
"A few weeks ago we went out on a date. He insisted he wanted to take me out and he promised me he'd spend the night at my place making me scream so I obviously said yes." Of course she did. She is the person who once had sex on a plane's bathroom with the stranger who sat down next to her. "One date turned into three and by the fourth date he said he really liked me and that he wanted us to become more than just friends with benefits."
Yes, I guess it's fair to say that Diane was a real life version of Samantha Jones. She is the blonde femme fatale, beautiful, strong, confident, classy and she had Trevor hooked and totally wrapped around her finger.
"What did you say to him?"
"I really like him." She said, a tone of uncertainty and fear found in her statement.
"That's not what I asked."
"I said we could... give it a go."
"And?"
"And last night he said he bought us plane tickets to spend the New Year in London!"
"Shut up! No way! Oh my God!" That earned me a few quick glances here and there and I refocused on drinking the tea I had ordered.
"Yeah... I don't even know what to think about all of this."
"Don't overthink it, trust me. Look at me and Lucas... Need I say more?"
* * *
Just like I'd predicted, Lucas was more than happy to have Diane and Trevor coming over for New Year's and even more thrilled about having a guy join the gang.
