Days pass and I'm left in front of the mirror applying fake eyelashes. Putting on the right one wasn't bad, but then came the left eye and now I'm struggling.

I haven't told my mom who I'm going with yet, so I've left her thinking that I'm going by myself. She's a bit upset about it because she thought Vylad and I "hit it off," but it's easier letting her think this way rather than her knowing the truth and keeping me in my room until I'm eighty one.

I don't want to go to this dance anymore because I'm being forced to go with Laurance, but I'm terrified of the repercussions of not going with him. I heard that those who go against his orders get punished, and I don't need to know what those punishments are.

Even though I've been getting to know Laurance, there are still many things I don't know about him. But then again, we're not allowed to be by each other enough to do that. Not to mention, Aphmau totally wouldn't let that happen anyway.

I begin to apply my lipstick before hearing little pebbles against my bedroom window. I lift an eyebrow and walk over to the window on to see the pebbles ricochet off the glass.

I open it up and stick my head out. Looking down, I'm left to confusion to see Laurance standing in the grass with his wings hidden. I open my mouth to speak, but he motions for me to keep quiet. I decide to try and sneak my way to him, but going through the window is dangerous. Instead this leaves me to try and dash down the stairs without my parents noticing.

It wasn't hard to do because my mom was cooking while my dad was in the kitchen with her reading from the newspaper. I just had to be extra quiet when opening and shutting the door.

"Laurance? What are you doing here?"

I can feel the cool air hit against my bare feet, and I know instantly that this was a bad idea. He looks me out and down, and I wrap my arms around my torso feeling self conscious. I'm given a funny look.

"You're not going to wear something like that to a dance are you?" Laurance asks, lifting an eyebrow at my pajamas. I figured I'd do my makeup and hair first before putting on my dress in case I go something on it.

"Of course not. I was getting ready. The evidence is the single lip tainted a different color," I tell him, rolling my eyes. "Why are you here? How do you even know where I live? You need to leave before you get caught."

Laurance only laughs and shakes his head. "Gene, but You're being silly. I just wanted to see you before the dance. That isn't a crime is it?"

I open my mouth to speak, but I'm left in silence. A heavy sigh escapes back my lips and I hang my head in defeat. "I guess not."

"That's what I thought," Laurance chuckles. It's then that I feel a surprisingly warm hand on my chin bringing me to look up at him. A soft kiss in my cheek makes an appearance before he smirks and walks away. "I'll see you later beautiful. Also, if you're wearing that, skip the bunny slippers. Save yourself some dignity."

Maybe an hour and a half into the night and my feet ache. I discarding my shoes a while ago, and they're somewhere near a table by the punch. Not many slow songs have played, and other songs are something I've never even heard before in my life. At that point I'm just trying to find the beat and predict what the music is going to give me before it does so I don't look like an idiot.

The different angel types are still separated, but they are sporadically placed throughout the room in little groups that nobody really seems to mind as long as everybody keeps to their own group.

Aphmau and Garroth snuck off out of the room a few songs ago, and I can feel two hands on my waist from behind pulling me closer to their body. My heart stops for a moment and I'm about to slap someone before I see it's Laurance.

"Don't scare me like that!" I hiss, narrowing my eyes.

He only laughs at me and rolls his eyes. He lets me go, and I turn around to face him. I cross my arms over my chest, unamused by what he finds to be comedy. "I'm glad to see you ditched the bunny slippers."

"I don't even own bunny slippers."

Laurance shrugs and slips an arm around my shoulders, pulling me closer to him. "In that case, I'm glad you know how to clean yourself up. I'm glad to see your masters left." Before I have time to protest, he leans in towards my ear. "I got the DJ to play a slow song when this song ends. You're dancing with me since they're gone."

"Laurance I-"

"Y/N, why are you talking to the unwanted?"

I turn around to see Aphmau, and I instantly take a step away from Laurance. He groans and rolls his eyes, mumbling something that ended in "block" before sighing in annoyance. He looks from me to Aphmau, possibly questioning why I'm so afraid of her.

"I wanted to dance with her. What's wrong? Your quickie too quick?" He asks, chuckling before he gets a glare from Garroth. "Oh please Garroth, you don't scare me."

I can feel as hand on my arm, and I look behind me to see Vylad. He's frowning and begins to pull me away from the scene. The song ends and a slow song begins, and I can't help but look behind me at the small argument happening. I don't understand why I'm kind of upset.

Vylad dances with me through the slow song so we're both not alone, but it's clear to see our minds and attention are elsewhere. We rarely look each other in the eyes, and when we do, it's a weak and timid smile before looking away again.

After a good chunk of a night that I hoped would be good ends up horrid, I'm back at where I started. I'm standing in front of my mirror, stripping myself from my dress and putting on my pajamas once again. My hair and makeup is still done, but I'll get to that eventually.

I place my dress on the back of my chair and walk towards the closet to get a hanger for it before I hear something tapping on my window once more. I hang the dress up and roll my eyes and make my way over to the window once more. When it's open, I can see Laurance. He's still dressed up, but his hair is a mess, and he looks like he got into a fight.

I sigh and shut the window and grab onto a pair of tennis shoes and put them on my feet. I have socks on, so I don't have shoes on bare feet.

I once more have to dodge my parents and go outside. But this time, Laurance is awkwardly propped up against a nearby tree, his wings hidden.

"I didn't get to dance with you like green bean did," he comments, removing himself from the tree and playing the slow song he missed on his phone. "Blondie obviously ruined that." I walk over to him and place my hand over a small cut on his face. He grimace and pulls my hand away. "Don't be like my sister."

I slowly nod my head. "What happen. . . ?" I hesitantly ask. He holds a hand out for me to grab onto.

"Got into a fight with Garroth. No biggie. His pretty face isn't as pretty anymore. Mine just makes me look even more hot," Laurance laughs before he looks down at his hand. I slowly put my hand in it after realizing he wants me to grab onto it. "May I have this dance?"

". . . You may."
