"This?" Haerin asked, pulling the red diamond on her neck. She jumped as the necklace suddenly broke off her neck.
Haerin was expecting it to break when it fell on the floor but instead, a clang sounded and Haerin looked down to see a black dagger glowing purple at her feet.
"What just happened?" Haerin asked, still shaken up by the whole experience.
The three boys had smirks on their faces as they stared at her.
"Looks like you found your main weapon."
...
"Nice sweater." Dasom commented as Haerin joined her in the line for dinner. Haerin immediately felt her cheeks turn red.
"It's just cold." Haerin said. "It doesn't mean anything."
"Mhmm." Dasom said, unconvinced. "If it were from Jaemin. But it was from Mark, and everyone knows that Mark doesn't give anyone his sweaters. Nor does he invited them into his cabin to get treated."
"The infirmary was overflowing." Haerin said defensively. "Plus, Mark felt bad since he's the one that injured me in the first place."
"Haerin." Dasom whispered, leaning forward. "You see those girls from Aphrodite's cabin shooting lasers at you?"
Haerin turned her head to see a group of Jaemin's sister's, glaring at her. She gulped. "Yeah."
"That's because they're jealous. Years here and Mark hasn't spoken a word to then outside of class." Dasom informed her. "Yet you've been here for a week and you got to spend a while day with him, and get invited inside his cabin. Heck, I haven't even been in there, it's for Mark and his friends only."
"I don't see what the big deal is." Haerin muttered. "Mark's just being nice."
Dasom threw her hands up in frustration.
"That's just the thing, Haerin. Mark never acts nice!"
...
"I heard you have a dagger as your main weapon." Jeno said as he settled beside Haerin for the campfire that night.
Haerin nodded. "Yeah, I do. It was hidden in my mother's necklace." Haerin said, fingering the jewel around her neck.
"Hades must have really loved your mother." Jeno told her. "The Gods don't normally give their significant others weapons as gifts, unless their special."
"I don't know." Haerin said, shuffling in her position. "Weren't your weapons gifts from your parents as well."
"Yeah, but directly from them. Yours wasn't for you, it was for your mother." Jeno pointed out. "And it's Hades, he doesn't have any other demigod children for a reason."
"I guess." Haerin said, still not sure how to take in Jeno's words.
The boy must have noticed how uncomfortable she was as he gave her a small smile, rubbing the back of his neck. "Ah, don't think too much about it. I'm just spewing nonsense."
"You always do that." Renjun said, squeezing himself in the small space on the other side of Haerin. "We call him no jam for a reason. He's really not funny."
"Really?" Haerin asked, surprised. Jeno nodded.
"Yeah, the mood just drops every time I try to say a joke." Jeno confessed.
"I'm sure it doesn't." Haerin reassured him.
"Oh it does." Renjun said as he took a s'more from the tray being passed around. Haerin took one as well before passing it to Jeno who did the same.
