It was now five o'clock in the evening, and I had little to eat and drink. I prayed a few more times earlier so I could release my stress. The group helped with decorations around the yard and I tried to keep my mind occupied, pondering on Raul. Mera told me not to worry, but he needed to be here before the ceremony began. I have to be united with Luna in Holy Matrimony. Today. No other day. Well, maybe another date if she felt like we should wait. But I doubt she would. We planned this all week, and the last two days were something special to us.
Colin walked in through the kitchen while I was grabbing a bottle of water. "Sup?" he said, wearing one of my outfits from home. It didn't look that bad on him; a teal blue sherwani with tan trousers and light yellow shoes.
"Hey," I replied, lifting the bottle to my lips, guzzling it down like I was jogging outside.
"So, I was thinking about you and Luna," he said, laying his phone face down. "Are you two going to do the unity candle lighting, or something else? Because I know she wanted to do something for the symbol of unity between you two."
I shrugged, feeling itchy and hot in my clothes. "I'm not sure. We haven't discussed it."
"I have a suggestion, but it's solely up to you guys. Some say that when two souls who are paired and immune to the effects of your genes, and they get married that there is an alternative way that bonds the two souls together."
"And what would that be?" I asked him as he stood on the other side of the counter.
"My friend who is linked to his wife said they did something different, but it might seem gross to you."
"Maybe. Maybe not. If it's drinking each other's-"
"No. No. God, no. Not that," he replied quickly, choking on his drink. "It's like a blood oath." I gave him a face. "It has to do with pricking the end of your third left finger, then placing it onto her finger after she pricks hers."
"Oh."
"I know. It's silly. I've heard united souls do this. That is what they call you guys, those who are paired and united. I was merrily suggesting something alternative and out of the norm."
"No. I appreciate it. That is something to consider. I wouldn't mind talking to Luna about it first."
"But you can't see her before the ceremony. She believes in all that bad luck stuff."
I exhaled a breath. "Then why don't we do this. You can run up to her room, hand her your phone, and have her call the house number. There's a phone on the wall right here." I strolled near the wall, and Colin nodded back, laughing.
"That's why you two are perfect for each other," he murmured while heading up the stairs.
I wanted to look in on her with my abilities, but we both promised that we wouldn't lay our eyes on each other until the Nikah. A few moments later, the phone next to my ear rang. I slowly picked it up, smiling.
