I could not tell you why I was so excited for this breakfast with Zayn, Liam, and Danielle. I got up early to curl my hair with my brand new curling wand. I applied light mascara and minimum foundation to cover up a blemish appearing on my chin. I finished up my look with a few squirts of my PINK perfume and walked out of the bathroom. Zayn’s jaw dropped.
“Well aren’t you just all dolled up, Miss Jordin.” He rubbed his chin while investigating my outfit.
“It’s not too much, is it?” I asked but I didn’t care. I wasn’t going to change because I had a plan. I was going to get Liam comfortable to us hanging out again. If I acted totally natural, he would have to.
“No, you look beautiful. You always do.” He smirked at me and continued to comb his hair. “We can go in like five minutes.”
We talked about our plans for the rest of the week and before we knew it five minutes was up and our cab was out front.
Liam and Danielle were already sitting at our table when we arrived. Danielle looked gorgeous, she had her hair straightened and was wearing a light summer dress. Liam was dressed casually but he still looked top notch. I swore my heart dropped.
“Hey guys!” Danielle perked up and gave both Zayn and me a hug. Liam didn’t budge. “Aren’t you going to say hello, Liam?”
“You’re not my mother.” Liam mumbled. I know Zayn and Danielle didn’t hear him but I did. “Err, hello.” He stood up and gave a bro hug to Zayn while I got a one-armed “because I have to” hug.
My plan was set into motion. I was talking up a storm and had Danielle chatting too. It was all going well until Liam got up during the meal to “get some fresh air” and never came back.
“Excuse me,” I said standing up. “I’ll be right back.” I was off to find Liam. As soon as I stepped outside of the restaurant I knew something didn’t feel right. Liam was too quiet. He was sitting on the railing of the deck looking out at the streets of the city. He looked so peaceful, yet underneath his eyes all I saw was fear. Pure fear of the unknown. This was not the same boy I knew back in grade school. I walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. “You alright?”
His eyes met mine. There was a four second pause. Suddenly our lips touched. I pulled away quickly and gasped. “Oh my God, Jordin, I’m so sorry.” He put his hand over his eyes and bit his lower lip. I didn’t know what to do. Did I seriously just kiss Liam James Payne?
Zayn walked outside and saw us sitting there. “What’s up Jordin? Liam?” I said a tiny thank you prayer because if Zayn had walked out fifteen seconds earlier he would have seen us kissing! Yes, it was totally innocent and unexpected… or at least it was for me. This made me ponder the question, was this Liam’s plan all along?
“Just sitting.” Liam couldn’t even make eye contact with his fellow bandmate. I’m almost positive Zayn knew there was something fishy going on.
“Well don’t get too much fresh air and wear yourself out,” Zayn said uneasily. He walked back inside shaking his head.
“Alright Liam, we need to have a serious talk,” I said leaning closer to him.
“I’m not sure I’m ready for this,” he said.
“Look, obviously there is something between us. Let’s be straight forward, okay? No messing around. How do you feel about me?”
“Honestly, I’m afraid to say, I still do have feelings for you, Jordin. I always have and I still do to this day.”
Chills went up my spine. I was speechless. Knowing that he trusted me and felt comfortable enough telling me how he felt made me smile.
“How do you feel about me?”
I opened my mouth to speak but I didn’t. I sighed instead. I couldn’t believe this was really happening. With all that’s been going on in our lives, this was super complicated and more pressure on us. I looked right in his eyes and grabbed his shoulders. “I’m not sure if I love you yet, but I definitely could in no time. I really like you a lot, Liam.”
His eyes widened as did his smile. We hugged and giggled a little bit. Then reality struck him. “Wait a second, I have a girlfriend inside this restaurant.” He bit his lip and glanced at the door as if he could feel Danielle standing right there watching him. I could tell, it was very apparent that he was ashamed of himself. “We can’t do this now, we can’t. What kind of man am I?”
My gaze stayed on him dreamily. In my head everything should have been perfect, but it was truly the opposite. My memory of grade school flashed before my eyes.
“Mark my words, Jordin, I’ll never ask you out ever again!”
I felt my heart break remembering how stupid I was. I’m sure he didn’t mean that, though. Right?
“We’ll have to discuss this some other time. Not here, you know? Thanks, Jordin.” He kissed my cheek and went back inside.
This boy confused me more than any other person ever had.
Day 2 in the Week of Mistakes: All the mistakes I made that day:
1) I went out for breakfast with Liam and Danielle.
2) I kissed Liam.
3) I discovered how I truly felt about him and I didn’t care about Danielle.
