Chapter 14: Truth

I closed Twitter and finally realized how right Zayn was. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe him, I did. But these things never really register in your head until you see it for yourself. I really wanted to spend time with Liam, so I decided to change the phone call time back to Zayn from now to a few hours later.

I sat down to cuddle with my boyfriend who was watching one of the Spiderman movies. I had never seen any of them, so I had no clue what was going on.

“Which one is this?” I asked Liam, grabbing his arm.

“It’s the new one. You know, with Emma Stone?” His eyes lit up.

I gasped and snuggled up closer to him. “Liam, you don’t have a crush on Emma Stone, do you?”

“A crush?” He chuckled. “No, no. No crush is going on here. But she is pretty, you have to admit,” he gulped.

After a few minutes, my phone lit up, tearing me away from Liam’s arm. I had a text message. It was from my dad.

Heard you were back from vaca, why dont you come home?

I shivered. How could I be so stupid and forget to contact my parents about all of this? I twiddled my thumbs and finally thought of something to say.

Yep, it was late and I didn’t want to wake you guys up. I stayed at Kristine’s. be home soon

I lied. I just couldn’t imagine my parents’ reactions if they found out I’d stayed at Liam’s house. Especially because they didn’t know he was my boyfriend.

Courage, I guess you could call it, led me to ask my next question. Some burst of insane bravery bubbled up and I asked Liam something that I couldn’t get off my mind. 

“Liam?”

“Yes?” His focus didn’t break away from Spiderman’s awesomeness.

“What happened to Danielle?”

No motion. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh come on, Liam, don’t play dumb,” I rolled my eyes. “I saw you with her at the airport. You asked her to marry you. She said yes. So where is she? What happened?”

“That really isn’t any of your business,” he whispered.

“It really is though, because you’re my boyfriend. And you were her boyfriend just two days ago.”

“Things change, okay? Things change and people change. Danielle had other priorities, and so did I.” He rubbed my arm sweetly.

“I understand,” I sighed. People DO change all the time. Just when you think you know somebody, they turn around and prove you wrong. I had plenty of experience with this when it came to my friends in high school. By my last year of school, I really only had one true friend. I’ll never be able to repay her for what she did for me. “Believe me.” I felt my cheeks flush red, but I covered them up so Liam wouldn’t see. I stood up.

“Where you going, babe?” He asked me.

“Just to the kitchen, but I may have to go home soon. I haven’t seen my family in a while.”

“That’s fine. You go, I’ll see you later.” He stood up, walking me to the door. We kissed and said our good-byes. 

When I couldn’t see him anymore, I tip-toed back into the kitchen. 

“Niall?” I whisper yelled. He turned around. “Come here.” I walked with Niall outside to Liam’s front yard.

“What’s up?” He asked coolly.

“That’s all you have to say?” I asked. “Really?”

“What? I don’t get it, what’s the problem?”

“Danielle! I know Liam isn’t telling me something about her. I figured you must know.”

He tugged at the bottom of his tank top. “I don’t know, Jordin. What do you want to know?”

“Anything and everything I possibly can.” I answered. My curiosity was becoming very apparent.

“You can’t say anything, alright? Liam there is one of my best lads.” We pinky swore. “Danielle told Liam she was pregnant.”

My heart stopped.

“You okay? Can I continue?”

I practically couldn’t breathe.

“Jordin?”

I gasped and nodded. “Oh my God.”

“No, it gets worse,” he rubbed his eyes.

“Worse? Niall, how can it get any worse than that?!”

“Liam and Danielle never slept together. She wanted to wait to do it with him until marriage.”

I shook my head. “Wait, what?” I then had to pretend like I had no idea Danielle cheated on Liam. But this revealed a far more disturbing reality to me. If Danielle was pregnant, and she and Liam never made contact like that, then how could this happen? Zayn and Danielle slept together, yes, but this was too recent for her to know she was PREGNANT! Did she cheat on him with someone else? I didn’t know, but one thing was for sure.

I had to get to the bottom of this.
