Still In The Dark Pt4

Elder McNamara: "hello outsiders have you located the scouts?"

Cole: "yes here are their tapes"

Elder McNamara: "let me take a look hmm it seems the NCR'S grip on the region isn't as tight as I thought I will look more into these but now I have one more task for y'all have y'all noticed the fog screen we put outside"

Jason: "it's kind of hard not to see it when it's so damn loud"

Elder McNamara: "its served us well for so long but sadly the system for it is starting to break down not only that but its also tied to our air filtration system so to put it simply we've got a few days before we run out of breathable air speak with knight lorenzo for further details and the location's of the replacement parts"

Jake: "alright let's go find lorenzo"

Jake said as we followed him to what looked like a repair room

Jake: "yo lorenzo you in here?"

Lorenzo: "hey jake did you need something repaired?"

Jake: "not at the moment but the elder sent us to you about retrieving the air filtration parts"

His face went from a good expression to a now horrified sad expression"

Lorenzo: "so I'm gonna have y'alls deaths on my conscience too?"

Me and Jason: "excuse me?"

Lorenzo: "y'all aren't the first to be given this mission I've sent many patrols to get the parts none of them ever came back"

Jake: "lorenzo this is my friend captain Barina I've always told you about I think he can handle this mission"

Lorenzo: "i....ok the parts are in three old vaults I'll mark their locations on y'alls pip boys"

He said adding the the locations on me and Jason's pip boys as cole put on his power armor helmet

Cole: "let's move"

(Timeskip)

Jason: "okay what's our first objective?"

Cole: "well our easiest objective will probably be vault 11 so let's start there"

Me: "what's in vault 11?"

Cole: "I'm not sure about any of the vaults in this region but we should still be prepared for anything now let's get moving the sooner we get these parts the sooner this lockdown ends"

(Timeskip)

Me: "lights on"

We turned on our pip boy lights as cole turned on his power armor helmets light with Jake just following our light we then heard running

Jason: "what the fuck was that?"

I turned as a mantis nymph was about to hit me with pincers I quickly smashed it under my foot"

Jake: "well looks like we won't be needing bullets"

He said pulling out a combat knife jason pulled out a machete as I pulled out my fire axe

Cole: "about time I tested this"

He said putting a power fist around his right hand as we got to the vault entrance

Jason: "look at this"

He said as we looked down at where he was pointing seeing four skeletons and five 10mm pistols

Jake: "you think the fifth guy gunned them down?"

Me: "no by the looks of it these four committed suicide the fifth guy didn't go through with it so he left I guess let's just find a utility or maintenance area that's gotta be where our first part is at"

Jason: "what is our first part anyway?"

Cole: "I'm not really sure all I have are photos"

Me: "better than nothing now let's move"

I said as we all began searching different areas of the vault the vault itself looked pretty damn old political signs about overseer elections littered the walls and floors everywhere I went was either rats or bugs but still no air filtration part we all met up at the entrance to the residents quarters

Me: "anything"

Jake: "nothing but bugs and overseer posters you?"

Me: "same thing it has to be down here somewhere then"

Cole: "then what are we waiting for let's do this"

He said opening the hydraulic door revealing more bugs, rats, and skeletons I swung my axe hitting one of the rats in the head as cole smushed another with his power fist

Cole: "ugh that's gonna smell"

Me: "agreed"

I noticed a map on the on the hallway directly in front of us i went up to it and wiped the dust off of it seeing the location of the utility/maintenance room.

Me: "by the looks of it were gonna have to go through the residents quarters and a stairway down to get there"

Jason: "let's just get this part and get out of here this vault gives me the creeps"

Jake: "agreed"

Me: "jake take point"

Jake: "got it"

He peeked his head in the hallway giving the symbol it was clear to move up we followed him through the hallway only a few of the rooms had hostiles in them they were easily dispatched by our sharp blades and metal fist

Jason: "this is it"

Cole: "let's get this door opened"

He opened the hydraulic door to maintenance as our feet felt immediately felt wet

Me: "hope y'all don't mind getting wet"

Jason: "y'alls bunker better have a laundry room"

We all trudged slowly through the water as it got deeper in some parts of the maintenance section

Jason: "you think it's in here"

He said peeking his head into the room seeing a bunch of lockers, sandbags, and ammo box

Jake: "what the hell happened in this vault?"

Me: "I don't know let's just see if the part is here"

I opened the first lockers door the locker itself was empty the second one had a whole skeleton in it the third had what looked like was the item we were looking for

Me: "this it?"

I showed it to cole as he rummaged through the pictures and pulled on photo out as he carefully compared the part to the picture

Cole: "exact match good job you two"

Me and Jason: "all in a days work"

Jake: "I've got the ammo let's get the fuck out of here"

A couple dozen giant mantises and rats busted through the glass of the room charging towards us

Me: "exterminate them"

I swung my fire axe into one of the giant rats rib cage as a mantis swiped my left with its arm I crushed it under my boot as cole punched one out of the air killing it instantly I turned to see jake surrounded by mantises I immediately swung my fire axe cutting one of them in half as I quickly cut another one in half as jason stabbed the last one with a machete

Jake: "okay now let's get the fuck out of here."
