I keep my phone down, looking at Khalil who struggled to eat. "Let me help you with it."
I sit beside him on the bed. "Thank you." I carry the tray from him. A nurse comes in, smiling.
"Sorry if I'm interrupting, I'm nurse adama. I will be helping you if you need anything."
She offers, holding her hands. I nod, pursing my lips. "Can you please help me with the remote? I can't stand this anymore."
He refers to the TV, fixed on the wall. "Of course." She takes the remote and switched it off.
"Thank you." He says to her. "Will there be anything else you would need?"
"No."
"Okay, excuse me." She leaves. "Why does it sound like you're angry?"
He asks. "No, I'm not. Just.....".
"Tired?"
I was about to say yes but I couldn't. "No, on edge. Mood swings."
He nods, chewing his food. I was about to feed him but he stopped me. "I'm good."
"You barely ate anything."
"I've eaten enough, I don't really have an appetite." He leans back on the pillows.
"You need the nutrients though or should I call the nurse to some over and tell you it's benefits?"
His head turns to me, the bandage around his eyes. "I have had enough." He says with a firm voice.
I shrug. "Fine, if you say so." I eat a spoon of his food.
"When am I going to be discharged?" He asks, clasping his hands. "Tomorrow."
"Is there hope my eyes will heal?" He abruptly asks. "No, I'm sorry."
I say as he sighs. "At least I have you by my side." He give me his hand. I look at it for sometime before placing my hand in it.
He holds it. I hope he doesn't think we're now lovers and all that.
"If you don't love or care about me and you are acting like you do, stop. Let's be honest with each other."
Khalil says straightforwardly. I couldn't find words to say. "Since that's off the table, you can act normally." He pulls his hand away, facing forward.
My shoulders felt less heavy honestly.
I sigh, closing my eyes.
"Can you call the nurse for me?" He asks. "Sure, excuse me." I walk out of the room without any hesitation.
I close the door as I see the burse talking to a man, smiling widely. Obviously a lover of hers.
I walk up to her. "Good day, my husband is asking for you."
She nods and left. I turn to look at the man standing there. "You're his doctor, what was your name again please?"
"Doctor Jabir and you meant your husband right?"
He crosses his arms. "Yeah, of course. What are the chances of his eyesight coming back?"
"Low, very low but he must come over for checkups every week so we could treat him."
"Okay, thank you." I walk away, praying his eyes heals.
I look at my phone, mukhtar has called me and sent me a message.
Missing you♥. -mukhtar.
I smile, replying with a smiling emoji.
