"Khalil? What are you watching?" I ask walking in with a pile of his folders he asked me to bring for him.
I keep it in front of him. He takes the folder reading the name on it using braille (combination of dots blind people use for reading).
He asked his assistant to help him turn all his documents to braille so he could read it.
"Thank you, I'm watching the mentalist." He replies.
"A friend of mine is coming over, the one I spoke to on Aisha's wedding."
"Aisha? I know a lot of Aisha's."
"The wedding we went and it turned up to be my old friend's." I try to make him remember.
"Really? Very interesting, what's her name?" He asks, unable to recall the wedding.
"Hafiza, we were very close. Its hard not to be close to her, she's cool and very understanding."
"That's good."
"You're obviously not interested, do I bore you?"
He looks at me. "I'm trying to concentrate when reading this."
"Ooohhh, I totally forgot." I nod slowly. His phone started ringing as it kept on calling Dr jabir's name so Khalil could know.
"What type of phone is this?"
"The doro 8040." He answers the phone call.
"Today is not really possible, we'll talk tomorrow. Okay, have a good day." He hangs up.
"Are you postponing the checkup?" I ask looking at him with my arms crossed.
"I'm busy now, tomorrow I'll be prepared to go."
"I'll excuse you." I hear my phone ring from my room. "Stay, it gets awfully quiet".
"Never knew you liked my company." I smile. "Silence is not an option so I basically don't have a choice. You're the only one, I'd exchange you with nurse Adama."
I roll my eyes. "You really like that nurse huh?"
"Where is she? I was told she would come by today, I'll give her a call."
He checks around him for the phone. "You have her number?"
"Yes, of course." He picks his phone up. "Okay, I'll expecting your guest." I leave the room while he struggled to call her.
I don't hate the nurse but she seems to be hitting on Khalil and I'm not comfortable with it.
Not that I'm jealous, what? No, but her guts is what I don't like.
I take a mirror image, changing my poses when I heard someone knock on the door.
I adjust my veil before opening the door. Adama smiled widely at me. "Good afternoon." She says.
"Good afternoon, come in." My voice full of dismissal. "Khalil needs your assistance."
I go back to the mirror. "Is Khalil upstairs?" I snap my head at her. "Khalil? You call him Khalil?"
I turn to her. "Well, yes. He prefers it.....". She trails off realizing how it sounded.
She smiles. "I understand how it sounds, there is nothing going on if that is what you are thinking. Where is his room again?"
"Follow me."
I take her to his room. "Khalil, your nurse is here." I say and he smiles. "Adama?" He calls.
"Yes, I heard you asked for me urgently." I look at the both of them like they were flirting with each other.
"Yes, I need your assistance. I prefer yours."
She smiles. "Thank you, I need to ask you some questions about how you are feeling right now."
She walks to him and sits beside him. I was left in shock while they flirted. In my house?
I sat so I could see what questions she's going to ask. "How are your eyes?"
"The same, blind."
"Do you feel any pain?" She scribbles it down. Her handwriting must be terrible.
"No, are you going to give me drugs?"
"What?"
He chuckles. "Okay, I mean medicine."
"Ooohh, no. Only Dr Jabir can give you that. He prefers he does it, he thinks I can't do it well." She shrugs, checking his eyes.
"He seems to know what he's doing."
"Yes, I mean, I guess so." He looks at her with a smirk then looks at me.
Our eyes met but he just looked back at Adama.
Wow.
I stand up so i could be ready for Hafiza. I took my phone from my room before I went downstairs to prepare something for her.
I heard a knock on the door, I prayed I internally it isn't Hafiza. I look opened the door as she appeared, looking at her nails.
"Hafiza, I thought you were arriving a bit late." I smile at her. "Whoever says that has something going on, what's it?"
I usher her in, closing the door. "Well, I wanted to whip something up for you to eat but you're here already."
She sighs. "Its okay. I just ate, how are you?" She hugs me. "I'm fine, how about you? Its been so long honestly, how's Aisha?"
I ask as she sits on the sofa. "She's married now, I'm the only one left."
"As you telling me Aleeya and Aleema are married?"
Hafiza gasps. "I totally forgot about them honestly but they aren't so far. I spoke to them last three months ago."
I shake my head. "You're in touch with everyone, I wonder how you're going to deal with it on your wedding."
She scoffs. "The closest are the bridesmaids and the rest will just be guests."
I stand up, adjust my shirt. "Okay, Allah ya sa. Let's go upstairs."
"Isn't your husband there? I don't want to make you all uncomfortable."
"Don't worry, just come up." I hold her hand, leading her to my room. Immediately we arrived upstairs, I heard adama's and Khalil's laughter.
"You have a guest, his sister perhaps?" I share my head, feeling hesitant to tell her because it is hafiza.
"Nah, the nurse." I say when she comes to a stop. "What?" I sigh before I turn to look at her.
"Come here, I'll tell you everything." I drag her to my room before she tried anything stupid she usually does.
"You better." She mutters.
