Lynn hadn't wanted to move for so long, several times she had forgotten that this wasn't some bizarre dream her wild mind had fabricated, but rather the cruel reality.
Lottie had done their best to be a good friend, but socializing hadn't been their strong suit. Lynn often found herself missing his touch, even if it had been small. Maybe she had been so utterly touched starved that even a mere stranger could fill her with longing for something she never missed. It just made Lynn even more angry to try and think about it.
She had gotten an email recently, the school was giving her one last chance to show up before she was expelled for the amount of days she had missed. There wasn't much of a choice, and the door was already open, cool air seeping in slowly.
"Remeber, hit that button if something happens again, okay?"
Lottie hugged Lynn one last time before she stepped out onto the sidewalk, the air was so humid she could feel it sticking to the back if her throat. One of the neighbors waved as Lynn passed them, a few birds chirped loudly in thier trees, and children were playing with a ball in the nearby grass. Lynn had to remind herself that she was safe, none of these people surronding her would attack unless provoked.
She took a few steadying breaths, Lynn had plenty of time before class started, lottie made sure of that. Lynn turned the final corner, groups of teens stood outside the highschool, it wasn't quite open for anything other than breakfast this early.
Someone cleared their throat grabbing her attention, low and behold, the peson she had been fearing most glared at her with so much hatred she would've assumed he wanted to claw her eyes out.
Her heart beat faster and faster, fear building in the lowest pit of her stomach like a wildfire. Lynn did a surprisingly good job at keeping the fear out of her face, even though it towered over her very being.
"Well well well, where have you been?"
Lynn flipped him off before swiftly walking into the school, she could just sit in the cafeteria until class started. Well, apparently not, the king of jackasses had just walked in behind her, she subconsciously quickened her pace and nearly threw herself onto the seat.
Zim gracefully placed himself a little to close for comfort, Lynn shoved her backpack in between them to stop him from getting any bright ideas.
"Mind if I sit here?"
He purred out, voice just that much deeper than it normally was, Lynn glared as he leaned an elbow on her backpack, acting like they've known each other for years.
"Yes actually-" she could feel each words crawling with rage, how fucking dare he do something so... Vile! And then act like nothing ever happened! "-I would rather you stay as far from me as humanly possible!"
Lynn caught a glimpse of malice in his eyes, like he was getting away with the biggest secret. But she knew his little game now- make friends with the shy girl just to try and get a quick lay, She had never fallen for this trick before, and she wasn't about to start now.
"Look, we may have left off on the wrong foot, how about we start over?"
She laughed at him, his face turned red, clearly flustered. This time Lynn didn't even attempt to keep the pure hatred out of her words, instead she spat them with the fury of all the stress she had to undergo.
"You would want to do that, wouldn't you?"
The bell rang, Lynn sighed happily, she could go to class and forget about all this, even if it was just for a short while.
Zim reached out a hand to try and hold her back just a few seconds, but she was too quick, gone with the croud before he could apologize. Zim groaned in frustration, she should have converted by now! Then he wouldn't have even been playing the waiting game. He wanted that girl and he wanted her now dammit! Not in another month, or year, now!
Zim pinched the bridge of his holographic nose, his impatience getting the better of his mind. There had been many things Zim learned to control, but patience was not something he had ever mastered.
=====
Lynn dreaded stepping out of those doors with all of her soul, Zim waited on the other side of them, obviously not having seen her yet. School had been over for nearly an hour by now, and all Lynn had done was wait, hoping that he would leave eventually, but at this rate she might as well camp in the janitors closet.
Giving in finally, Lynn walked out the doors, Zim flipped to the door the second it creaked open, she noticed the deceitful grin was no longer present, instead replaced with regret? She wasn't sure if he could be trusted quite yet, so her hand gently caressed the small panic button hidden in her small pant pocket.
They both just stared at each other for quite some time, Zim had met her eyes several times trying to string words together, but gave up as soon as he opened his mouth. Lynn couldn't bare the empty noise anymore.
"Look, I get that you are trying to say... something, but after... that... I don't think I could ever trust you again."
Zim's while posture sank down just a little, he rubbed the tears away before they could properly form. He nodded, not even speaking as he walked out from under the auning, head down and feet slightly dragging. Lynn felt her jeart give a sharp jap, mocking her for making him seem like a fool, even after she had seen his true colors, this didn't feel right.
=====
Zim let the useless globs fall once he knew her eyes were no longer on him, his vision was blurry as he trugged down the sidewalk to the base.
Stupid stupid stupid!
Zim clutched at his chest, the hurt came from there, a place that he couldn't properly fix. That was the first time he had seen her in weeks, and his first reaction? To be a complete ass.
Zim wanted to tell her how much it made his insides twist when he spotted her outside the building. He wanted to hold her like the dreams let him, and make her laugh over simple joke that even a mere human could say.
There's other humans on this planet..
No. She was the only one and deep down he knew it, once an irken had their heart set on making something theirs, it was nearly impossible to stop them.
Zim clutched at a necklace previously hidden underneath his shirt, it showed two gold dragons curling around each other, forever stuck. It was his most prized possesion, and wearing it allowed Zim to use his holodisguse. It had been given to him by an old friend, and perhaps it was time he paid them a visit.
