"I'm beginning to think you are not parents. You let her go to public school and now parties? Are you trying to make her into a prep?"

"I think it's a great experience." Esme says. "She's getting to feel like a normal teenager."

I stand up. "Yeah, until she gets drugged and wakes up in an alley somewhere from being raped."

"Luckily she has you there, isn't it." Esme pats my shoulder.

I make my way to Bella and Edward's cottage, catching up to Nessie on the trail, who is singing her little heart out to some song she heard on the radio. I stay behind her a little bit, taking in her voice. It's so angelic. I could listen to her sing for days on end.

"Stop being secretive. I can hear you behind me." She giggles.

I grab her by the waist flinging her over my shoulder. Nessie squeals in laughter, hitting my back, but in a playful way.

"You are in so much trouble." I say.

"Are you sad that I want to hang out with someone other than you?"

Running to the cottage with Nessie still on my shoulder, I release her back to the ground once inside.

"Jacob, I'm sorry if it made you feel like I didn't want you to go. I would love it if you came with me."

"Once the teenagers annoy me, we are leaving."

"Stop being a Debbie Downer."

"Then I'll sit on a rock and watch your every move."

Nessie wraps her arms around my torso and leans her head against my chest.I hold on to her tight, not wanting to let her go. She smells of the forest and there is a hint of that blood she drinks. The scent doesn't back me away, but enhances the love I have for her.

"Thank you, Jacob." She says looking up at me with her chin resting on my chest.

"For what?" I cock my head to the side in curiosity.

"Fore being there for me. I know I wasn't myself this morning."

"You could have grown up to be a massive bitch and I would still be by your side."

"I still could become one. High school isn't over yet."

"Don't change. You're perfect the way you are."

I was hoping Nessie would change her mind about the party. She didn't.

Here we are, getting ready to leave for the beach. She's wearing more make-up than normal. I wish she would notice that I am the only guy for her. She doesn't even need to impress me. She already has me. My eyes are only on her. I'm unable to process how I started feeling like an adolescent teenage boy hiding from his crush.

"Do I look okay?"

Nessie has on faded waist high jeans and a salmon top that flows and meets her jeans. Thank God she didn't wear a tight shirt. I would have tied her up in her bedroom and told Edward and Bella to ground her for the rest of her life.

I smile at her. I'm stuck on her, I can't not smile at her. "Gorgeous." I say.

She tucks her hair behind her ear and sends a text. "They're there. Let's go."

Bella and Edward sit by the fire they have lit in the sitting area as we say goodbye. I think I know the real reason why Edward said she could leave the house. I hope they buy a new sofa before we get back and replace the rug their bodies will be touching. If Nessie ever found out, that would be a very awkward conversation and I don't want to be there for it.
