Meryl placed her lunch on the table where Diane and Chloe were together mumbling about an issue. Guessing what it was, she looked up and saw, at a nearby table, Sabrina with her friends, a matter that intrigued her.
"I haven't had classes with her this morning," she said.
"You are not missing anything," Diane replied. "I expected it to be shattered."
The girls had been using a fake account to send suggestive photos with Gary, and once the young man got so caught up in tempting proposals that they took a few weeks that they were able to arrange a meeting. Instead of meeting this strikingly attractive young girl, he found no one but Sabrina waiting for him, disappointed and incredulous, as he had told her that he would be dining with his cousins.
Diane had no qualms about what she had done, nor did her friends. Instead, they were disappointed with their results:
"You said she adored him," Chloe said, "and that this would tear her apart."
Diane hit the table.
"I know! I have no idea what happened, I was hoping that she would stop seeing him because of her image. If there is one thing that matters to her more than Gary himself, it is her image, and an incredulous girl who forgives this type of behavior says a lot about her. You know that Gary's reputation will not be affected as much as hers.
"Have they not broken up?" Meryl asked, looking back at the subject of their conversation who speaking naturally.
"I do not know. I haven't seen her sad."
"They're not sitting with The Lions," Chloe hurried to observe, "and that's a good sign, no doubt."
"It would be if at least she had been absent, is it possible that she has forgiven him and is just upset? We should have done something to expose him to public scrutiny, she could not forgive him."
Diane began to manifest ingenious theories about what happened after they left the place where the lovebirds met while expecting a fight.
"Whatever," Chloe said. I think maybe they ended their relationship and, for the very protection of her image, she refuses to show it. Still, we weren't going to settle with this, were we?
"Not at all," Diane replied. "This is just the beginning. What we must do is expose her in public."
"And have you thought about how we will deal with Angelica and Monica?" Meryl asked, interrupting her friend's encouraging air.
"I still have no idea," she assured. "The Cornells are discreet, just like her. We hardly talked about her life outside of the social scene. I can't even promise that we'll get revenge on her. Maybe we could turn her against Sabrina."
The eyes of her friends shone with astonishment; their expressions could not match the exaltation caused by such assurance, nor the one caused by thinking about the matter.
