Clover wakes the next day to low chatter from across the jail.
"Haha, you're funny Mr. Dragonfly," A familiar voice says.
She sat up and rubbed her eyes. Clover looked across the way and saw an almost naked Khajiit. She made her way to his cell and made quick work of its lock. Clover sauntered in and stood in front of him.
"Come to kill me at last have you? Thank the Gods, I can bear the guilt no longer," He says relaxing in his seat.
"Excuse me?" Clover asks confused.
"I know I must die. Beware though, my newfound honor demands I defend myself," He says.
"Wait. Do you know me?" Clover asked excitedly.
"I am in no mood for jokes. Strike me down! Take your revenge!" He yelled.
"I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Who are you?" Clover inquires. While he ponders for a minute she takes note of what he looks like.
He is a khajiit, but uniquely blue, he has three earpieces in each ear, and has a set of scars on his face; a set of three that go diagonally across his nose, and another set of three that are right under his right eye.
"You don't remember? That is my fault also. I am your so-called friend Inigo. I am the one that killed you, or tried anyway. I am guilty! Kill me!" He pleads.
"You didn't do a very good job, did you? Why are you here?" Clover asks.
"After I shot you I finally realized my mistake and tried to turn myself in. Your body was gone. The guards did not believe me. They said I was wasting their time. I had to pay them to put me in this cell. It is where I belong. I needed to repent. I need to repent," He says shamefully.
"So you're the one who shot me," She says, earning a flinch from Inigo. "If you thought I was dead then why are you here waiting for me?"
"I heard tales of a remarkable adventure, both brave and resourceful, matching your description. I knew it was you. It had to be! I knew you would be coming for me so I waited. Are you going to kill me or not?" He asks.
"Kill you for what? I don't remember what happened," Clover says, leaning on the table.
"I see that I must relive it again. Your memory is not what it was. We met on a job," He said. "The killing kind we were hired by the Lord called Dupan to kill his brothers. With them gone, Dupan would inherit a great fortune and promised us much gold in return. Do you remember none of this?" He asks surprised.
"No. Go on," Clover says with a flick of her wrist.
"Before we left, Dupan told me that if only one of us returned from our mission, they would get the other's reward. I was hooked on Skooma at the time and I had a bit of a debt problem so.." He trailed off.
"You tried to kill me for my half of the reward?" Clover asks, already knowing the answer.
"I tried. That is what matters. It was not an easy choice. We only knew each other for a short time but I had grown to like and respect you. We got on well and fought bravely side-by-side. I threw all that away for gold and Skooma," He says ashamed.
"Did you get the reward?" Clover questioned.
"No. Dupan was murdered by his sister before I made it back to his keep. Our deal died with him. Money is an evil like no other, My Friend. It is only just that I die at your hand," He said.
"Are you still hooked on Skooma?" Clover inspects her blade.
"No. I am done with the stuff. I want to die with my senses intact. Kill me now. I am ready," He said, closing his eyes.
"No. You're no good to me dead in this cell. Come with me. Fight by my side," Clover holds out her hand.
"I fight with you?" He asked, confused.
"Yes, Inigo. Repay your debt with the blood of my foes," Clover said.
"Or die defending you! Yes! I accept! I feel lighter in my heart now that you've given me this opportunity. It will be just like old times," He exclaimed standing and taking my outstretched hand.
"Just watch where you aim that bow of yours," Clover says with a grin.
"Do not joke about such things, My Friend. The sadness I feel for what I have done is brutal enough.... for now," He said, grabbing his stuff.
"Who is this?" Clover asks as she looks at the dragonfly in a jar.
"That is Mr. Dragonfly. He is My Friend," Inigo said, attaching him to his waist.
"Oh, how sweet. Before we set off for my next job we have to go grab my friend Lydia," Clover said, taking his hand in her's and dragging him out of his cell. She didn't realize she had his hand in her's, it felt so familiar and so comforting.
He nodded and followed, seemingly uncomfortable about Clover holding his hand, but he didn't move to stop her. We arrived at the Bee and Bard to find Lydia interrogating the bartender about where Clover was.
CLover released Inigo's hand and gave Lydia a hug from behind. She melted into Clover's embrace and whispered to her. "Don't ever disappear again, My Thane."
"I make no promises Lydia," CLover grinned. "Meet our new friend, Inigo."
"Hello Lydia, it seems we have not been properly introduced. I am Inigo," Inigo said, offering his hand for Lydia to shake.
"Hello Inigo, I'm Lydia," She said, shaking his hand.
"I hope we keep you, you seem like a load of fun. Shall we be off, My Thane?" She asks.
