Chapter 10 - Demon In The Killing Spree!

\\ || //

(Y/N)'s POV

"Here," Pierce pointed over to a shop named 'Giulios' at the front.

"That wasn't a far walk at all," Rhys seemed surprised, to say the least.

Lief on the other hand, "we could've gotten here faster, ya know?"

"Of course, we could have," Rhys nodded before bringing his hands up as if to move the whole place, "but look around you."

Doing as I was told, I looked around.
There were a lot of humans, all minding their own business walking around aimlessly.

"Humans seem to prefer to walk. To do anything out of the norm would cause panic," Rhys explained.

"But how do we know?" Asch asked. An underlined mention of his curiosity. A complete rarity from his usual hot-headed demeanor.

"Don't you recall when Lief jumped out of the window with Ava?" Rhys recalled.

"Oh yeah! That was fun," Lief smiled fondly at the memory.

"I prefer our method of travel as well," Pierce agreed. Perhaps the first time I heard him say anything at all today. Note the sarcasm.

"If we want to blend in with the humans, we follow their customs. Otherwise, we'll stand out and bring unwanted attention," I stated with arms crossed. Something about my wording brought me dread.

I came to remember that Princess Ava was sick and that was the only reason we were outside on our own. She always came to our defense whenever we explored (which, honestly, it wasn't a lot.) And this time she really couldn't because she was bedridden.

"Correct," Rhys nodded at my statement before looking up at the 'grocery store', "now come. We must use this mon-ei to exchange for the ingredients listed."

He made his way inside first, all of us following behind him. He took out the spell book and flapped over to the soup page, squinting to get a better look at the small words imprinted on the pages.

In the meanwhile, I decided to get myself a small head start and looked around. My feet were planted to the ground but my eyes traveled everywhere. Studying every detail that the store had to offer. The word 'grocery store' held a similar meaning to 'market trading', or at least one with similar actions. Both contained items we had to trade with the mon-ei we were handed in.

Leif blipped behind me and asked, "do you even understand what we need to get?" Impatient and somewhat confused. Typical behavior coming from Leif, but for once I felt a bit agitated how badly he was fitting in with the humans and using his magic.

Or in this case, how good he was on not fitting in. Which was the exact opposite that we were trying to accomplish.

Since I was standing next to Rhys, I lightly pulled the book over in my direction to get a better look at the words, ignoring the bickering ensuing between both men.
'This recipe is far different from a moon pie,' I could feel myself metaphorically sweat. Even as I reread the ingredients I couldn't understand just what the ingredients provided. It was similar to a potion, that much I knew, but how to obtain them was what confused me. How would we know what we're looking for?
