"They aren't due until the end of the year," Bella breathed, her voice slicing through the silence.
"Someone told them about Ari," Edward answered before Alice could reply, "they're coming to kill her."
"Why," Aria asked, "I've done nothin' to 'um!"
Esme wrapped her arms around the small blondes shoulders, "Arie, calm down, we won't let them hurt you." The small human wrapped her arms around the matriarchs waist. She found comfort in Esme's embrace, as if the immortal was truly her mother.
"I didn't do anything to them," Aria murmured as she tightened her grip on Esme. Esme ran her fingers through the young girls hair hoping that calmed the little empath.
"It's against the law for humans to know of our kind," Rosalie's woeful voice rang out, "punishable by death."
A heated glare from Esme, caused the angelic looking blonde to fall silent. The vampires and shifters in the room began discussing their options. Emmett offered the idea that he would run her north to their cousins. Jasper suggesting that he sends her back to Texas. Seth and Leah offered to hide her on tribal lands. Aria sat quietly between Esme and her uncle listening to each idea that would lead to a fight that her and Jasper would have to soothe.
Carlisle soon returned home from work and was filled in about the problem at hand. His golden eyes casted down onto the mortal that completed his family. He watched as her eyes darted back and forth between everyone, absentmindedly rubbing her covered arms that held more scars, a nervous habit he caught onto quickly once she arrived.
"There is no escaping this," Carlisle spoke causing everyone to look at him, "Aro will not let this slide, not after everything that has happened."
Aria looked over at her uncle and wrapped her arms around his, sadness and fear was all she felt. If it was hers or his she didn't want to know. The day quickly drained away turning to a beautiful starry night outside. She had fallen asleep, her head resting on Jasper's bicep her hands clinging tightly to his sweater.
"We should get her home," Alice said as Jasper began to pick up his niece.
The duo said their farewells for the night and headed into the woods. They walked slowly in order not to disturb the sleeping teen.
"Three days," Alice murmured, "until they arrive."
Jasper nodded and headed into the cabin and down the hall to his nieces room. He laid her down in her bed after removing her shoes, covering her up with her aqua blue covers.
"Uncle Jasper?" Aria uttered, sleep still evident in her voice.
"Yes darlin'?"
"I love you," she said giving his cold hard hand a squeeze, "I don't think I tell ya that enough."
Jasper smiled softly before kissing his nieces head, "I love you too. Sleep well little one."
Sleep crept back over her, courtesy of her family member.
Three days had passed. The Cullens stood in the clearing, awaiting the arrival of the Volturi. The Black pack were in their wolf forms in case something was to go wrong. Nessie had taken the liberty to inform, well show is a better word, Aria what they would be up against. Saying the 4'10 teen was scared was an understatement, she was terrified. Jasper kept one arm around her shoulders the other had Alice tucked into the side of his body. He was trying to keep her calm which was hardly working her powers only adding to the anxiety he was already feeling.
Aria fiddled with the hem of her maroon colored sweater dress sleeve, her honey colored curls were pulled back into a ponytail, she opted to not wear make up, she wasn't planning on trying to look presentable. She looked around as the wind blew causing her to shiver ever so slightly. Often times she complained that she wasn't used to the cold weather that seemed to hang over Forks, that she was used to the Texas heat. Her eyes gazed upon the dreary gray sky above, she missed the sun and its warmth. The trees weren't the familiar oaks and elms, or any of the magnolia trees that she grew up around. She missed home. She realized she would never see her beloved Texas again after today.
"I wanna be buried in Texas," she remarked knowing that her uncle would respect her wishes, "at the Glenwood Cemetery between daddy and grandpa."
Jasper gave her arm a slight squeeze.
"They're coming," Edward said after reading Jacobs mind.
Not long after, seven cloaked figures emerged from the tree line. They moved with a grace that could make a ballerina weep. Three stood in the middle, long midnight black cloaks swayed with each step they took, giving them the illusion that they were floating. The one in the middle wore a smile like a gun, his milky film covered red eyes scanning each of the Olympic coven members, lingering on Alice, Bella, and Edward. His raven black hair was pulled back by a red clip. To his left stood a man with a deep scowl on his face. His shoulder length platinum blonde hair was slicked back showing off his much younger angelic face. His film covered red eyes held an inferno within them. Aria was sure that he would be the one to order her execution. To the right of the one in the middle stood a tall man who seemed to be in physical agony. His eyes were unfocused, he didn't stare at anything in particular, as if he was simply rolling through the motions. She could feel his pain from where she stood. It was unbearable, who could've possibly put him through whatever torture he was going through? All she wanted to do was hug him and tell him everything would be ok. His brown hair hung in loose waves around his face.
On either side of the three stood two guards. A boy and a girl wearing black and two men wearing dark gray. The girls creepy bright red eyes kept darting to each of the Cullens as if daring one of them to move. The man to her left made Emmett look small. He easily towered over all of his companions. He didn't have the same cuddly boyish charm that the human had grown accustomed to with Emmett. In fact he seemed about as cuddly as a cactus in her opinion. He radiated confidence that not even her uncle nor Emmett combined could muster. They're eyes locked and he winked at her which earned a glare from the human teen. She knew he was dangerous. The other man wearing dark gray seemed to have an relaxed aura to him as he trailed behind his companions. His arm swung slightly as he smirked admiring the scenery around him. His frosted blonde hair stood in spikes, giving him the just rolled out of bed look. She heard her aunt and Rosalie remark that he was the insanely cute tracker, Demetri. She saw nothing cute about him. The boy in front of the tracker, he took her breath away. He had full pale pink lips, a boyish charm that would make any girl swoon. His hair was greased back revealing his perfect god like face. He looked like a seventeen year old boy, merely a year older than her, but she learned quickly that a vampires looks can be deceiving. His black suit hugged his body perfectly revealing his athletic form.
As if he felt her staring, the teen looked over at the human. His eyes went wide as they stared at each other, causing him to nearly fall. The depressed mans eyes focused at once a fire ignited in his dull red orbs. He stared between the two teens watching as the golden thread tethered the two together. A knowing smile spread across his face once they stopped.
"Brother," his sad voice called out, "Alec has found his mate."
