Thunder rolled overhead as raindrops pattered softly on the windows of the Cullen house. The immortal family had gathered in the den playing board games and to watch movies. Emmett was on a winning streak at the moment, each property he owned held either houses or hotels on them. His siblings were all nearly depleted of their colorful money. Esme sat watching her children and her granddaughter who sat on the couch with Aria learning to play the guitar.
Nessie sat watching as Aria's fingers moved between the cords slowly so she could keep up. The human smiled at the hybrid that she considered a sister after the three months she spent with the immortal family.
Nessie missed a note and puffed out her cheeks in agitation only to feel a slow wave of calm wash over her. Nessie glanced up at the human who smiled innocently. It wasn't a shock to any of them when the family had discovered Aria's ability to control emotions that easily rivaled that of her uncle.
"Not cool with the mood thing Ari," Nessie whined.
"My apologies," Aria smirked, "I didn't mean too."
Aria watched as Reneesme scrunched her eyebrows in concentration as she tried to play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" again. She was half way through when Alice walked into the room, carrying a vase filled with a beautiful arrangement of sunflowers and feverfew daisies. A ghost of a smile played on her visage as she looked over at her nieces.
It had been three blissful months since the human had joined the family. She quickly became friends with everyone, including Jacobs pack. Her and Emmett bonded the quickest since they both loved to pull pranks on Edward. One of their pranks lead to the forever grumpy teen still finding glitter in his hair after weeks of washing it out, needless to say they were grounded shortly there after. The pack enjoyed her cooking, especially when she made sweets for them. Esme viewed the mortal as a daughter even before she was brought into their lives. Edward and Bella found her to be delightful, that was when she wasn't with Emmett plotting their next prank. Carlisle, once he discovered she wished to become a surgeon after completing school, had taken her under his wing teaching her everything she had yet to learn. Rosalie was the last one to warm up to the human but once she did, they had become fast friends.
Alice had made her way halfway across the room when a vision danced before her eyes. Dark cloaks darting between the tall trees, red eyes that gleamed with murderous rage, the Volturi crest shining brightly, and her dear sweet Aria laying on the ground a perfect crescent shape on her tan neck and her warm brown eyes now lifeless. Alice gasped, dropping the vase alerting the rest of the family that something was wrong.
Aria wasn't used to her aunts visions and didn't fully understand how they worked but she could tell by the panic that rose steadily from her that whatever she saw wasn't good. In the blink of an eye, Jasper was at his wife's side.
"Darlin'," Jasper cooed, as he tried to gain his mates attention, "what'd ya see?"
Alice's eyes flicked up to her husband, venom pooled in them, "They're coming," her voice barely above a whisper.
Everyone in the room froze. Jacob put a protective hand on Nessie's shoulder. Leah's eyes filled with hatred. Her younger brother, Seth, in the middle of moving his piece along the board had stopped halfway through his count. Aria felt a mix of emotions, all ranged from hatred to fear.
"Um," she said, placing her guitar back in its case and stood up causing everyone to give her their attention, "for those of us that don't have supernatural hearin' what's goin' on?"
Alice looked at her niece. Her eyes conveyed a sadness that chilled the human to her core. It was like she was gazing at the petite human as if it was the first time. As if she would never see her again after today. The words that came out of her immortal aunts mouth nearly stopped her beating heart.
"The Volturi," Alice said, "they're coming."
