Pop, pop, pop.
Aria watched as her bag of popcorn revolved on the glass plate in the microwave. She already had Supernatural queued on the tv, waiting for her return. She tapped her acrylic nails against the counter as she waited patiently.
She looked down at her sugar skull and rose covered coffin nails making her remember the events of last night. Yesterday, her, the female Cullens, Leah, and Jane had a girls night. Each girl wore a cute spooky little pajama set and fuzzy socks, had a skeleton hand wine glass that color coordinated to their outfit, and received a blanket and pillow set. Alice took it upon herself to banish all the men from the house to Emmett and Rosalie's cabin for poker that night. Alice also managed to talk nearly all the girls into a spa night, with a little help from Aria to change the minds of the ones who opposed the idea. It was a wonderful night filled with laughter and happiness. They watched Hocus Pocus as their facials dried, danced to anything that had a beat, talked, and for those that could ate snacks and sweets. Jane was closed off at first but once Katy Perry came on, she was singing and dancing along with the rest of them.
The Volturi left early that morning to hunt in Seattle. The note that Alec left for Aria stated that he would bring her back a gift when they return that night or the following morning at the latest. The Cullens decided to go hunting and the pack had patrol, which left the human alone to her own devices. Which lead to her roaming around the house for awhile before settling on watching a show and eating a snack.
The kernels ceased their popping and Aria grabbed the bag before the treat burned. She poured the kettle corn into a bowl adding a packet of m&m's to the mix before returning to the den. Plopping down on the couch with about as much grace as a trotting hippo, the remote in her tiny hand, she started her show. She pulled her Ravenclaw themed throw
blanket over her lap to keep herself warm as she watched the program. She was nearly through the third season when a knock emitted from the front of the house. Aria's brows knitted in confusion, she wasn't expecting guest. Were the Cullens expecting company? Thoughts raced in her mind, before settling on the Volturi must have come back from their hunting expedition. They were probably the culprits behind the knock. After setting her popcorn bowl down, pausing her show, and throwing her blanket to the side she wandered through the house towards the front door.
She was in the kitchen when the knock came again, only this time harder. She jumped slightly, her cloak wearing companions wouldn't have done that they would've heard her approaching, there wouldn't have been a need to knock again.
Red flags started flying through her mind, a feeling settled in her stomach that something bad was lurking behind the door. Her eyes landed on the wooden block housing the knives. She grabbed the butcher knife, her reflection shined in the smooth metal of the blade back at her. She let out a breath and continued on her journey to the front door. Her grip tightened on the handle until her knuckles were white. Her heart raced, she looked through the peephole.
No one was there.
Aria took a deep breath and threw open the door to see an brown envelope right in front of the door. Puzzled, Aria looked around there was no one in sight, not the sound of a car, not even a cricket made a noise. Everything was eerily quiet. Aria grabbed the envelope and closed the door, locking it. She noticed her name scrawled across the front of it. In a handwriting she wasn't familiar with. Maybe Emmett was messing with her. Revenge for her and Felix gift wrapping all his tools a few days ago. She opened the brown sleeve, holding the opening away from her in case Emmett figured out how to glitter bomb her.
Nothing popped out surprisingly. She turned the opening to herself and nearly dropped the wrapper. Inside where what she thought were blank sheets of paper, possibly card stock based on the weight of the envelope. She pulled out the contents only to realize they weren't what she thought they were. Her breath was caught in her throat, her hands shaking, she broke out into a cold sweat. Inside where pictures, all of her. Some when she was working on Emmett's Jeep with him, her and Rosalie shopping at the mall, herself playing her guitar on the patio as her uncle and Marcus listened to her play, her piggyback rides with Demetri, and her sparing practice with Felix in the backyard. Each and every photo had her. The last one made her blood run cold.
A picture of her and Alec on their date. They were on the boat, kissing after saying they loved each other. That moment would forever be engraved in her mind,. Aria cherished that moment more then any of the other moments they shared together.
In bright red lettering right across the picture piercing her heart.
Found you babe!
Aria's phone went off, Chris's text tone blaring but to Aria it sounded like it was a million miles away. His text not helping her already worsening mood. Aria made her way back into the den, exiting out of Netflix, and onto the news.
She wanted to pretend that Chris was messing with her with his text, but she knew he wouldn't do that to her. She hoped that this was a horrible nightmare or mean prank from one of the locals. The news only confirming what she now knew as the truth.
The headline down at the bottom might as well have slapped her in her face. It would've been less painful.
RIOT AT HARRIS COUNTY JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER
The reporter spoke about the riot, how Houston authorities are searching for the four delinquents that had escaped. In a matter of seconds, Aria's world had come crashing down again.
There was no escape this time. She was a dead man walking.
