Everyone was silent, only sound to be heard was that of the heartbeats and breathing of the wolves, hybrid, and human. A soft breeze made the leaves rustle in the nearby trees as Aria's brown eyes danced between the groups, unaware that what Marcus had said meant that her fate had been rewritten once again. That she was now untouchable, protected by the mating laws that Marcus had installed shortly after the death of his mate.

Alec's eyes never left the human. He noticed a faint display of freckles that decorated her cheeks and slightly upturned nose. How her full lips were the pink shade of a newly bloomed rose. Her wide rich brown eyes giving her an angelic look that he found adorable, not that he would openly admit that. The baby hairs that frizzed around her temples and hairline due to the humidity surrounding them. Her hands bore jagged scars that seemed to trail under the sleeves of her dress. A deep feral growl escaped from him, the mere thought of someone hurting such a innocent being causing such an uncharacteristic reaction from him.

Aria's attention was drawn to the boy again, who stood with his arms behind his back. His fire red eyes were slow turning black as he watched her. His eyes casted down towards her hands, which made her suddenly self-conscious as she yanked her sleeves over her hands. They watched each other unaware that Aro had grabbed his brothers hand wanting to see the bond for himself.

"Brother," Caius sneered, "what is it that you see?"

Aro cackled causing Aria to jump. She would pay him handsomely for him to never laugh again.

"It is true," Aro laughed, "She is a mate."

Aro's film covered eyes bore into Aria's causing her to feel uncomfortable once again. He made her skin crawl she wanted nothing more than to run away from him but her uncles grasp on her kept her planted where she stood.

"Hello little one," he said as he took a step closer, another smile plastered across his face.

Jasper pulled his niece further behind him, acting as a barrier between the mortal and insane immortal. It would be a cold day in hell when he would let him anywhere near his niece.

Aro noticed the empathy's actions and raised his hands to show no ill will, "I mean her no harm."

"Says the man who came all the way here to kill me," Aria quipped forgetting that he could hear her.

Another laugh left his mouth. Another chill shot through Aria. Was is possible for him to not laugh like the joker? Edward smirked at her thought. Emmett chuckled next to her. Aria's eyes grew wide as her hand covered her mouth  after replaying what she had said.

Way to go Arrie, she thought to herself, Just make them want to kill you faster why don't you.

Edward rolled his eyes, "They can't kill you, you're protected."

"That's not what y'all said three days ago!"

"Three days ago we didn't know you were a mate."

"What does me bein' a friend have to do with any of this?" Aria asked as her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion.

"A mate," Alec spoke for the first time capturing Aria's attention again, "as in soulmate."

Alec watched as Aria's doe like eyes grew wide and she started backing away. Her heartbeat sped up as she shook her head. Her breathing grew irregular as the Cullens tried to soothe her. Soulmates aren't real, she thought, there's been a mixup.

"Ari," her uncle called, "darlin' look at me."

Aria felt two cold hands grabbing her face forcing her to look up at the person. Emmetts golden eyes peered into her earth brown orbs. He then squatted down so she wouldn't have to crane her neck.

"Arrie," Emmett said, "focus on me and my feelings."

Aria nodded closing her eyes and pictured Emmett in her mind. Everyone else's feelings faded away leaving only him. He was calm, collected, relaxed. Emmett watched as the visible tension left the teens shoulders. The human reminded him of his younger sister that he left long ago. She was just as sweet and caring as his sister that he loved dearly. Aria brought her small hands up wrapping them around Emmett's.

"Better?" The burly vampire asked.

"Yeah."

"Just stay focused on my feelings ok?"

Aria nodded. Thunder sounded overhead. The wind picked up causing Aria to shiver. Stupid wind. Emmett picked up Aria, earning a heated glare from Alec as everyone raced back to the Cullen house.

Aria's mind raced as she held onto Emmett. So much had in a matter of months. First, she lost her father and had been uprooted from everything she knew as home. Second, she found out the supernatural actually existed. Third, she was marked for death by the ruling coven of vampires. Lastly, finding out that she was a soulmate. She understood what a soulmate meant to a human but to a vampire she felt it meant something more. She once though she had found hers only to be sorely mistaken. Only one question lingered on her mind, what the hell happened to her life?
