Treachery: betrayal of trust; deceptive action or nature.
Percy Jackson thought life was going great. He thought that with his girlfriend, Annabeth, his best friend, Grover, and the rest of the seven, he might actually be normal.
Yeah, 'normal' doesn't seem to be in the cards for him. Percy shook his head as he remembered how foolish he had been. How naive he had been. How trusting he had been.
How had he not seen it? Loyalty was his downfall. Trust was his enemy. Love was his weakness.
But he got rid of all that and so much more, and now the old Percy—the naive little hero Percy—was locked away in an amulet given to him by chaos himself.
He remembered how it had happened that day.
The old him was walking hand and hand with Annabeth Chase, a pretty blond daughter of Athena with wicked smarts.
They laughed at something Grover had said. Aside from being the satre that found him, Grover was Percys best friend.
It seemed to have all gone downhill after that though, with Percy and everyone he was close with being summoned to Olympus.
"You—Percy Jackson—have hereby been summoned to your trial to the murder of Frank Zhang!" Zeus thundered.
"Fr-Frank's dead?" Percy stuttered.
"Oh don't act so coy with me, Jackson! We know you killed him, Mrs Chase says she saw you do it!"
Percy turned to look at his girlfriend, a thousand thoughts running though his head. Annabeth held back a smirk, but Percy could tell by the way her grey eyes shimmered with treachery that his Wise Girl wasn't in the right frame of mind.
"Annabeth? What are they talking about? I didn't do it, you know I didn't do it!" Percy was grasping into his girlfriends hands so hard they became white.
The blond removed herself from his grips and walked over to the gods, giving an unnoticed smile to Percy. "It is true my lords and ladies, I saw Perseus do it. Frank was a hero, he would've wanted the monster that killed him caught,"
The gods continued talking, but there was only one word Percy could focus on. He had sworn not to become evil, not to give into the darkness and to keep his pure heart. But what Annabeth was doing was betraying everything he stood for, and the word she had said getting stuck in his throat and echoing in his head.
Monster.
He looked up at the gods and as his eyes caught his fathers, he realized something. Posiedon looked so ashamed, so disappointed and frightened. The rest of the gods—even Ares—seemed to look at him with disgust.
He thought through each and every time he had helped them, the loyalty he had pledged to them. When he helped Apollo, when he held the sky, when he carried Hera, all of it.
And for nothing.
The gods believed he had done horrible things, things Percy couldn't even begin to think about. His friends do too. All though they remained silent as though not to show their distrust, their eyes betrayed them.
Everyone standing in the room around him, his family and friends, believed he had killed the hero known as Frank Zhang. There was hardly any evidence yet they believed he had killed one of his closest friends.
They weren't loyal to him anymore. The friends he had thought would stand by his side until he died seemed far away, drowned out by the darkness they were outing on him.
Percy tried to grab onto a life ring, tried to plead with them to pull him to safety, but against the weight of their nightmare, he was useless.
The worst thing was that he couldn't stand the idea of this. He couldn't think this was real although he knew it was. He couldn't imagine killing them, all though right now he should be seething with anger.
He was still loyal to him and even after they betrayed him, he couldn't except that fact. His anger wasn't enough to break his fatal flaw.
Athena's words echoed in his head 'loyalty will be your downfall'
"Please, I didn't do it. I swear!" Percy pleaded.
Zeus was having none of his so called 'nonsense'. "Well then why would miss chase lie?"
"That's-that's Annabeth. Something overcame her, she's not in her right mind. She-she lied. I swear!"
The gods turned towards Annabeth and Athena spoke up, "daughter, is this true?"
Annabeth snapped back to reality at that moment, and was for once aware of what happened. Her grey eyes watered as she knew Percy didn't do it. But all the eyes on her couldn't turn into disappointment, not because of her.
She tore her grey eyes away from Percys sea green ones, not able to look him in the eyes. She looked at zeus, "Percy Jackson killed Frank Zhang. He's no better than Kronos,"
Pride had won over loyalty, fatal flaw over love.
A hole appeared near Percy as Zeus gave him a pointed look, "you are hereby banished to Tartarus!"
Percy shook his head in tears. "No, I'm still your hero. I'll always be your hero! Your making a mistake, I'm still loyal to you! I didn't kill him! Please!"
But it was too late, and Percy Jackson started his long trip down to hell.
