We had to go into the court and the case would begin in five minutes ,marshall grabbed the umbrells from the back seat and got out the car ,he walked over to the drivers side and helped me out ,my heart was in my throat and when we got to the shelter outside the court we saw mom and dad approach and they looked just as panicked as I was
We all walked into the courtroom and to our surprise carol was already seated with her lawyers and her fiancé ,mom and dad went over to the other row and marshall squeezed my hand and then I went to sit next to tiara while marshall unpacked his case file in front of me all I could think of was the possibility of this case going wrong
It was exactly eleven when the judge came in and we all rouse and my heart began pounding like it was going tocome out my chest and and i glanced across the room at carol who seemed like she was really confident but marshall and I prepared for her schemes so we were prepared
I finally caught marshalls gaze when we sat down and he mouthed “calm down” and I took a deep breath,the trial began and carols lawyer was called out first and I felt myself start shaking ,Marshall sat at his place and he did nothing as much as flinche or break a sweat
“your honour I believe that the court should head my words , my client Ms.DASREPMAR has been emotionally and physically abused by the defendant for the past three and a half months and we have the proof of it” he handed over a few pages to the judge and I looked over to Marshall eagerly wanting him to defend us and as I looked down at my hands marshalls voice boomed acroos the courtroom “objection your honour ,permission to give a counter argument via a tape” the judge granted the permission and marshall began arguing our case and the judge was constantly making notes he would have gone on if carols lawyer didn’t object and ask for the court to take a break and it was granted
Mom,dad and tiara instantly walked out of the courtroom in deep chatter ,but for some reason I couldn’t muster up the courage to get up and face them all ,my knews felt useless as if I were temporarily paralysed ,Marshall walked over and sat next to me ,not knowing what to do I threw myself into his arms and he hugged me and whispered sweet things into my ears
I pulled away from him and he told me that our case was strong so I could calm down ,just then tiara ,mom and dad came in and they were all beaming with joy and I was genuinely confused ,I was shockedwhen they told me that they overheard that carol was dropping the case and was willing to pay for all damages caused as well as additional 500 000 dollars due to emotional trauma
I felt all my anxiety go one level higher and I felt every bit of the rise ,”it cannot possibly be this easy we allknow this I can guarantee this ,we all know carol and thereis no way in hell would she back down this easy !!!”I practically yelled as I pinched the bridge of my nose in attempt to ease the headache that was forming,Marshall placed his arm around my shoulder and it sent shivers down my spine but I was to stressed and outraged to acknowledge it ,the smiles that were once playing on everyones faces were wiped and dad and mom looked deep in thought as they registered my words and they knew just as well as I did that carol wouldn’t give up this easily ,there had to be some other motive
I looked up into Marshalls eyes and ven he seemed to be in thought but he kissed the side of my head in attempt to calm me down ,we were snapped out of our tense reverie when the judge announced the resumption of court ,marshall walked over to the front of the court while I took my seat next to my stressed out family
Carols lawyer told the court exactly what my parents and tiara heard and I looked over at carol who caught my gaze and smirked at me and I just looked away but for some reason this whole thing didn’t sit well with me
I looked at marshall who looked at my dad and caught dad agreeing with marshall ..seconds later marshall accepted carols request and both dad and mom visibly relaxed and the judge gace justice to us
I was fuming and I couldn’t take it ,I mean this couldn’t be this easy could it ? I picked up my bag and I raced out of the courtroom ,I needed to think ,I needed space ,I saw Marshall race after me and I also saw the look on my parents faces,Tiara tried to hold me back mut I shrugged her of as I walked for the car with marshall right behind me
I was almost at my car when I bumped into the one person I really didn’t want to face ,Carol ,I tried to push passed her and ignore her but she stopped me ,I was furious and I looked at Carol with fuming eyes “get the hell out of my way Carol” I said in a deadly tone knowing that all I really wanted to do right now was throw a decent punch at her and it took every ounce of my self control not to “no respect for your dearest aunt ?well nevermind that i still love you and that’s exactly why loverboy over there is with you right now my dearest carl here has payed him to play you”I stood there dumbfounded as I registered carols words I looked behind me as Marshall spoke to my dad and my mom and tiara were oblivious to the fact the I was talking to Carol ,I snapped out of my thoughts as carol began laughing and walked away
No way in hell could this be true ,could it?i got into my car and drove off to the one place I knew I would feel better ,ignoring the calls from Marshall and my Dad for me to stop
