As marshall opened the door to let me in I yelled to notify everyone we were back ,dad was on the staircase and he looked down at both of us and asked “so where have you two been?” we walked behind dad to the kitchen and I explained to him that Marshall needed a suit and so we went to fetch one
To my relief at breakfast Mom changed the topic to the case and Marshall explained the defense to them ,I was silent throughout and couldn’t help but replay the morning over and over in my head ,Tiara came downstairs wearing her pajamas and we all looked at her quizzically ,of course I thought to myself tiara was the one person in the house who could take this all so lightly ,either that or she forgot
And clearly it was the second option because the minute she noticed us she ran back up the stairs yelling that she would be down in half an hour or twenty minutes ,after breakfast I went to my room to get my phone and neaten up a little bit ,I was making my bed when marshall came in and stood at the desk ,I didn’t even know he was there until I turned around and I fell forward right into his arms and I hugged feeling like a clumsy little girl he held our embrace for a little while longer then he whispered into my ears “what did I ever do to deserve you?” I was about to answer but we were interrupted when dad walked into the room since the door was pened
“I love what you have done with the place Natalie”he said as he steppedto stand between marshall and I as if ti create a distance and I tried to hide the smile on my face ,marshall assured dad that everything was alrigh and from the looks of it dad was getting more stressed by the minute and by the looks of it he was in a hurry to leave as well because by nine he was rushing us out of the house and to calm him down Marshall and I decided to leave to the courthouse so that he wouldn’t feel like he was missing something and our instincts were right when we reached the courthouse dad relaxed a little bit and was not so much on edge as before
As luck would have it the minute we got there it began to pour hard and so we had to stay in the car until we could go into the court ,I sat behind the wheel of my car and I watched the rain drops slide down the windscreen
Marshall placed his hand over mind and I looked at him with the calmest look I could muster because it seemed like ever since we reached the courthouse my nerves went on a rampage and even though I thought and hoped that marshall wouldn’t notice it he did “your eyes give your anxiety away you know”he said as our eyes locked again ,how does he do that I thought and my phone rang
To my surprise it was a group video call from Vanessa and kylie ,my best friends and I answered it immediately ,they went on just like they used to when we were in highschool and it seemed to calm me down ,they always filled me in on all the gossip in the first five minutes of the call and I listened to them go rattle of the weeks gossip like experts
When they were done they finally got to asking how I was andthen they noticed I was all dressed up “are you on a date ?”asked kylie and I almost said I was but instead I explained what was happened with carol and how I ended up sitting in the parking lot at the courthouse and they looked at me as if I were crazy ut the moment I finished Vanessa broke the brittle cool air of the conversation “so is the lawyer taken ?”she asked causing kylie to rattle of questions like “yeaah and is he hot ?”causing me to blush since I knew what they didn’t ,he was in the car with be and as I looked over to him he was smiling out the window ,I was about to make up some excuse to hangup the call but to my surprise Marshall took the phone from my hand and held it so that we were both visible to kylie and Vanessa causing the two of them to look at me in surprise “nat you didn’t tell us you weren’t alone” said Vanessa and I was officially speechless
“my name is Marshall and you may not know me but ive heard a lot about the two of you and back to your earlier question I would like to think the lawyer is cute and for your kind information yes he is taken since this morning” I laughed and then I explained to them our situation and then they went off in a fit of joy ,I would have gone on with the conversation when we saw the time and said goodbye
