Cake's POV
I rushed towards the house, sprinting as fast as I could. I could hear Nickel screaming.
Oh God, she's killing him! The thought rushed through my head as his scream was suddenly cut off.
I should have helped him, I- I should have done something! The thought flashed in my head but I knew that if I tried to help I'd just end up getting killed, and making his sacrifice pointless.
I dove into a bush, covering my mouth to quiet my rapid breaths as sweat and tears rolled down my face. Minutes went by and I heard no footsteps outside, so I slowly looked out from my hiding spot.
Lollipop was nowhere in sight.
I sighed in relief, then ran back toward the house, bursting through the back door. I ran to the library and started frantically searching through the books, tossing them off the shelf.
Come on, Cake, where is it? You've seen this place a thousand times! Loser's shown you this place a thousand times... I teared up remembering him but quickly shook my head and rammed my head into the bookshelf, knocking down many books, including the ones I was looking for. I reached toward the back of the shelf.
"Looking for something?" A raspy female voice spoke from behind me, sounding disguised. It couldn't have been Lollipop, she had no reason to hide her voice. "I suggest you don't turn around, Cake." I heard footsteps slowly moving toward me, and I grabbed the gun from the safe after finally unlocking it. It had taken a while; I'd had to move slowly or she'd notice. But as soon as it was in my grasp I turned and fired. The shot missed, but whoever it was ducked and ran out. I couldn't see who she was. She had hidden her body with a coat. I couldn't run after her while carrying the gun or I'd lose my balance. I hopped out of the door, and I could only see her turn a corner.
No chance of catching up now.
I ducked back into the library, shutting the door and grabbing the second of the two items in the safe, a master key fitted to be able to lock or unlock any door in the house. I quickly locked the door and then sat down, sighing. At least in here, I'd be safe...
Golf Ball's POV
The sound of the dining room's door slamming open was something I was fairly accustomed to. I hadn't even bothered to look until I heard the voice all too familiar.
"Golf... Ball..." I immediately began sweating as I turned to look at the doorway of the suddenly empty dining room.
Tennis ball stared at me with hollow eyes and a hole straight through his torso.
"N-NO!" I tried to go toward him as the lights cut out, an I could suddenly hear footsteps rushing toward me.
I woke up, nearly screaming but managing to calm down. I turned over in my bed, seeing Tennis Ball on the couch just seven or eight feet away, and let out a sigh of relief. Just a dream. He's fine.
Why did I keep having dreams like that?
Was I really that scared of losing him?
Dim light poured through my window. It was nearly dawn. I slipped off the bed, walking past the couch and attempting to grab the doorknob with my mouth, but slipped and bashed my forehead on the metal handle, falling onto my back with a yelp. I could feel a little blood slowly leaking from the new gash in my forehead. I could hear Tennis ball quickly get up.
"Are you okay?" He asked worriedly, examining my forehead. I flinched away. It hurt, though not unbearably.
"Hello?" He asked.
Didn't I say something?
I tried to speak again.
But no voice came out.
Cake's POV
I woke up to the sound of someone pounding on the door.
"H-hello?!" I hated how much my voice shook. I flicked the safety off, aiming the pistol at the door.
"...Cake?" I heard Ruby's voice from outside. She sounded shaken and terrified. I carefully opened the door, and she flinched as she saw the gun. She was supporting an injured Pencil, who had an open wound in her side.
I helped her get inside, and closed the door. "W-what happened?"
"W-we got attacked, someone was running a-away from here and cut Pencil's side open." Her voice was wavering. "Their body was hidden, they were wearing a coat or something. They were too short to be Lollipop."
Well that was more information to add. Female, and shorter than Lollipop. The height didn't narrow it down all that much; the only female taller than Lollipop left was Bell. Though I suppose at least that raised suspicion from her.
"I'll try to find something to patch that up, just- um..." I didn't really know what to do. "Just do whatever you can to keep her alive until I get back." Ruby nodded quietly, looking back at Pencil who seemed to have passed out. I quickly ran out of the library, shutting the door and locking it so they'd be safe in there.
At least, I hoped they would be.

Hi. So, sorry for a short chapter after more than a month long wait. But this story is now officially off hiatus! (Albeit with slower updates than before). Hopefully the chapters won't be taking so long anymore. And apologies if the writing got a little wonky near the end, I was writing the last four paragraphs and this author's note section at 2:20 AM and I'm really tired, but I wanted to get this out to you guys as soon as possible.
So, yeah.
Golfball's mute now >:)
