Something Unexpected

Chapter 3

Noah P.O.V

I'm not even sure what Kara had even said before I hurried back in the house. I walked straight to my office and sat back in my chair lost in my thoughts. This can't be happening, this isn't supposed to happen. I run my fingers through my hair and sigh deeply. Things just got much more complicated within the last ten minutes.

*knock knock*

I look up from my desk and glance at the clock. It's been an hour since the encounter outside.

"Come in," I announced in a loud voice.

"Hey honey," my mom says, closing the door behind her.

"I just wanted to check on you, you seemed tense and dazed outside" she says, her face full of concern.

"Mom I'm fine" I say

"Noah you can talk to me about anything, you know that right? I'm always here for you if you need me" she replies with a small smile.

She knows, I can tell. That smile of hers reveals it.

"Mom, I know you know" I reply with a sigh.

My mom's face immediately lights up and with a big smile says "Oh isn't it wonderful, you finally found your mate! And Sienna seems like such a sweet young lady".

Kara and my mother had told me to be prompt and ready because Sienna was arriving. And since I am the Alpha or to Sienna camp director I was to meet her properly. As soon as I walked out of the house I could smell a strong scent of roses and coconut. I have never smelled something that amazing before. I start to hurry and look around to see who was giving off that scent. But that amazing smell seems to be coming from Sienna, Kara's human friend. I could already feel my wolf become excited and kept pacing around in my head. The moment our eyes met I could hear my wolf scream "Mate! Mate! Mate!" How could this be, my mate is human? She is really beautiful, but she's human. She would be in too much danger especially not being a wolf. Our hands meet into a firm handshake while still maintaining eye contact and that's when I could feel the sparks. It felt like hot electricity shot throughout my whole body. I swear for a moment it's like she could feel it too as I saw her gasp, which is unheard of for a human mate. They usually won't be able to feel much of anything at all according to history books. I guess it could be different for everyone but who knows. At that moment I just wanted to hug her, smell her, and never let go. But I know better than to do something like that especially with this type of situation. My dad cleared his throat and that was enough for her to quickly retract her hand. I didn't fail to notice the blush that crept to her cheeks. I'm sure mine looked the same at that moment. My mind was racing with so many uncertainties that I didn't even listen to whatever Kara said. I just hurriedly walked back into the pack house up to my office and tried to throw myself into my work as a distraction. This would explain why it took this long for me to find my mate. But now that I've found her I may have to reject and let her go. At least since she's human it will be easy for her to move on.

"Mom you know I can't have her as a mate" I say with a heavy sigh.

"And why is that young man" she replies with a hand on her hip.

"Well for one she is human. Now that I think about it human mates are extremely rare. And even more so being an Alpha's mate that puts her in more danger. What if a rogue gets word that I have a human mate they will do everything in their power to hurt her and she won't be able to defend herself"

My mom looks lost in thought for a moment.

"Noah, I understand your view on this. But you have been waiting for your mate for this long. Do you really want to lose your chance with her? And yes, a human mate is very uncommon, a one in a million chance but as history has shown there have been some cases that the human mate shifts after being marked".
