I Hope He Didn't

Since the college was an hour away from Derric's house, we gave our dorm room up. Now, we wake up in comfortable beds and are able to ride together to the college. It's been a few days since the Community Ball and the argument. We have argued a bit recently and I've noticed that Derric has ignored me some. He recently got a job as a mechanic and he's been gone from the house after school. I've recently been friends with a girl and a guy. Katlynn, was the same year as me and Derric, she acts different all the time and it bothers me a bit.

However, my guy friend, Jake, is gay. He makes jokes about converting Derric and it scares Derric sometimes. Derric has met them and has hung out with them with me. Katlynn and Derric seemed weird at first, but then they became close recently. She keeps telling me that nothings going on, but I feel like there is. Derric never stays here to hang out with me and we've only hung out once. We went to the Save Animals Rescue place and met some puppies. But, the one we both liked was a one year old, solid black Brindle breed. He was a sweetheart.

I had planned on meeting Derric at his job and surprise him. As I pulled in, I noticed Katlynn's car there and parked away from the entrance. I grabbed my keys and went to find Derric. I almost reached the entrance when I saw Katlynn and Derric talking. Katlynn touched Derric's arm, Derric smiled and laughed at her. I watched them go to the benches and sit down. I was able to a little of them conversation. "Serenity, can't know what's going on. She hates secrets, but it has to be this way." My heart literally broke in half and I felt my eyes start to burn. Katlynn hurt me even more. "Yeah. She's my friend and all, but I don't even think I can keep this from her."

I loked at my left hand where he gave me the ring. Did he really just break me? Am I really hearing this secret of there's? My birthday was coming up and this is what he was going to give me?! I quickly ran to the car and quickly drove off. His parents loaned me this car to use in case I needed to get to places. How did I not see this coming? And with my friend Katlynn of all people! I was heartbroken and angry. I don't know why I felt this way, but I knew I just had to get away. I must have forgotten what time it was cause I reached the diner that was near the college. I sat in the parking lot and sobbed. Everyone was telling me happy birthday, but Derric never even noticed.

As I sat in the car, sobbing and mentally beating myself up. My phone rang and it was who I knew it would be. Derric. I picked it up and wiped my tears away. I slid the unlock button and answered with as much confidence as I could. "Hey, beautiful. I thought you were coming by the shop?" "Yeah, I was but I got caught up." He was silent and I knew he was waiting for me to grill him. "Babe, something's up with you. What's wrong?" I blew up and couldn't even control myself. "I saw you at the shop actually. I just hid myself when Katlynn was there. " Derric paused and seemed surprised I was there. "Really? Well, are you sure it was Katlynn?" "Of course, it was Katlynn. She's not that hard to describe, Derric!" "Why are you yelling at me?" "Cause Derric. I saw you two and you guys are done hiding this secret!" "Serenity, what secret? What are you talking about?" I shook my head in disbelief and realized it was over. "I'm coming home, Derric. I'll be there and we can talk then." I hung up the phone and threw my phone in the passenger seat. I wiped my dried up tears and tried to fix my hair to look nice. As I drove off down the road, I had the window down to calm the redness in my face.

When I reached the gate and continued up the driveway, I noticed a bunch of cars there. I wasn't thinking clearly, but just parked the car. I got out and walked to the front door. Once I opened the door, the lights came on and I hear the most exciting thing. "Surprise!" I was shocked and I saw the people that loved me. Except for two. Derric and Katlynn. Everyone hugged me, ate food and dropped off their gifts. Once everyone left, except for Katlynn and Jake, I sat on the couch. "Serenity, did you like your surprise party?" "Let's sit down and talk, shall we?" Derric noticed that it was about to happen and he was damn sure for realizing it. "What's been going on between you two?" Derric and Katlynn furrowed their eyebrows at me.

"You two know exactly what I'm talking about! Don't lie to me!" Derric looked down at the floor and back at me. He looked, hurt. Why does he look hurt? i was the one that he was cheating on! RIght?! "Serenity, whatever you think is or was going on, it's not I promise." "You're making promises now?" Derric stood up and told Katlynn and Jake to leave, but Katlynn wanted to help. "Why?! So you can take him from me even more?!" Katlynn must have gotten tired of it cause she yelled at me for the first time. "Serenity, stop it! Me and Derric planned this for you! That's the big secret!" I was dumbfounded and hated myself for how I acted. "What?" Derric nodded his head and ran his hadn through his hair. "Yeah, babe. We did this, for you." My heart broke and I was hating myself more.

"Serenity, you're my best friend. I would never do that to you. But, I still love you. I hope that your surprise party was great. I'll talk to you later." Katlynn hugged me and left with Jake. Derric closed the door and walked over to me. "So. You really thought that I would cheat on you with some random chick or friend of yours? Wow." I looked down and I saw him crouch in front of me. "Love, do you not understand what this ring means?" I never answered. "I truly love you, babe. I do. I want you and Jade." I looked at him and his eyes changed to a gray color. "I'm sorry, Derric. I don't know what come over me." Derric noticed I was about to break and he grabbed me to hug me. "Oh, love. You just got emotional. It was my fault. I should have told you happy birthday this morning." He looked at me and then, remembered something. "I do, however, have a gift for you. But, it's something we have to share." I was confused and he went to another room. I heard a door open, but I heard pattering. I looked up and it was the solid black Brindle pup. I almost cried and then I realized his name. "Cerberus. Wow, we are Hades and Persephone, aren't we?" "Almost." He kissed me and we ended the night with a good nights rest.
