Sprinting down the avenue as fast as my little legs could carry me, I nabbed as many loose, shiny objects I could. Purses, bracelets, watches, even necklaces weren't safe from my claws. I was a master thief; nothing could escape my grasp. I could hear Gia yelling my name from afar, but I didn't listen. The girl never had a good sense for thieving like I did, poor dear. But for now, I was committing petty theft, trying to make up for the cash we'd spent at the clothing shop.

Running nonstop for ten minutes and collecting valuables, I decided to lay low for a little while. Ducking into an alleyway, I dumped the heap of treasure in my arms onto the ground to take a look at the rewards I'd reaped. Sorting it out, I now possessed a few watches, a dozen or so bracelets and necklaces, and a whole bunch of wallets. Scooping it back up and tucking it away where I knew I'd remember it, I tentatively stepped out of the alleyway.

Checking to make sure the G Patrol wasn't out, I decided to take a little walk. After all, we were taking the day to sightsee. I might as well enjoy it before the real work began. I took in the smell of the city, of grease and exhaust and curbside food merchants. I enjoyed walking along the sidewalk, the warm pavement smooth beneath my paws, occasionally kicking some pebbles and seeing how far I could get them before they bounced into the street.

At first, I was really enjoying myself, walking around, seeing the sights of the big city. There were so many Pokemon around, and I would have fun coming up with ways I could rig a distraction so Gia and the others could nab them. Then, I realized she wasn't there to scheme along with me, and I got a bit lonely.

The world really was a lot different, sitting up on Gia's shoulder. It didn't seem as big, or as scary. The more time went on, the more nervous I felt. It was getting later, the sun dipping lower in the sky. People weren't paying attention to where they were walking, and I had to dodge huge feet crashing all around me. I almost got stepped on multiple times, and I was starting to get nervous.

I didn't know where I was. Without a perch to sit on, I had no idea where anything was, and I couldn't go inside any buildings because they were inside because I didn't want to show my face. Once we started stealing the Wishing Stars, the first thing people would point out about Gia would be the Alolan Meowth with her.

I didn't want her to suffer for my actions, despite how crazy she drove me sometimes. And besides, the last thing I wanted was for us to get arrested. Despite the things I say about him, I do value Giovanni's respect, and it means everything to Gia. So I try to stay on his good side. And besides, I'm not cut out for life in prison. I'm too cute to get a tattoo!

Mewing to get attention, I ran down the streets, looking and listening for Gia's tell-tale voice. I was running for what seemed like hours, as the sun sank even lower in the sky. My throat was scratchy, my feet were aching, and I couldn't see through the forest of legs all around me. Collapsing in a heap on the curbside, I sighed and looked down at the road. If I wasn't a klepto, I would've been back with Gia, lounging in our hotel room sipping some ice water.

"Hey. What kinda Pokemon are you?" a voice with a twangy accent came from behind me. Turning, I saw a young girl with black pigtails looking down at me. She wore a pink dress and a black leather jacket with heeled boots that turned up at the toes. She had small, very light blue-green eyes and a tiny red backpack on. A small Pokemon that looked kind of like a Pikachu was sitting on her shoulder. Morpeko. A Dark and Electric type. I'd been helping Gia memorize the Galarian Pokedex, and the memory of her stung a bit.

"Meowth," I said, tugging on the hem of her dress. Maybe she could help me, if I played my cards right. "Oh! Are you lookin' for somethin'?" I nodded. "Wonder what it could be," she wondered aloud. She scooped me up and let me climb onto her shoulder. "C'mon," she said. "I'll take you 'round the city. Let's see if we can find what you're lookin' for."
