Hope's POV

I woke up to the faint sound of yelling coming from Josie's phone.

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN YOU WENT ON A MISSION WITHOUT ME?" Lizzie's voice blared through the speaker.

"Lizzie, it's not that big of a deal. I didn't know you'd care so much," Josie replied, clearly trying to stay calm.

"NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL? YOU TOOK THE FRICKEN TRIBRID INSTEAD OF YOUR OWN SISTER!"

"Lizzie, it's no—"

"NO, SHUT UP! I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT! IF YOU WANNA BE WITH THAT BITCH WITCH RATHER THAN ME, THEN JUST DO THAT!"

Josie groaned before hanging up and crawling back into bed. She looked at me apologetically.

"I'm sorry you had to hear that," she muttered.

"Don't be," I whispered, feeling guilty. "I didn't even think about anyone else. I just wanted everyone to be safe."

Josie reached out, taking my hands, her eyes locking onto mine. "You did nothing wrong. Lizzie always acts this way when she gets jealous."

I managed a weak smile, feeling a bit better. Josie stood up to head to the shower, and I grabbed my phone, scrolling mindlessly.

Suddenly, I heard Josie singing in the bathroom. Her voice was... incredible. Like an actual angel.

"You sing well," I called out.

"Shit! You weren't supposed to hear me!" Josie shouted back. "I hate my singing."

"It sounded great to me, babe."

"You're seriously gonna keep calling me that?" she responded, sounding flustered.

"Sooner or later, you'll love it," I teased, winking at her as she stepped out of the bathroom, blushing.

Later

Both of us got dressed and ready to continue our hunt for the flying statue. Seriously, what does one even wear to hunt a magical flying creature?

"Good morning, girls! I got you some breakfast," Dr. Saltzman announced, handing us each a banana and a bottle of water.

"Thank you," I said politely. Josie, however, just took her banana and walked off. I quickly followed her.

"So," I started, "we still need to work on making you the voice in your family."

"That's not going to happen. Lizzie's just... outgoing, and I'm not."

"Outgoing? That's what you call it?" I smirked. "What's your definition of outgoing?"

"It doesn't matter. It's just always been that way, and it's going to be hard to change."

"Why do you care so much?" she asked, her voice a little more serious.

"Well," I began, "I've been a lone wolf my whole life. I've had to take care of myself, and others. I just want you to have your moment."

Before Josie could respond, I snatched her banana and took off.

"That's not fair! Give me my banana back!" she whined, chasing after me.

At the Library

Josie's POV

All day, Hope had been so kind, which was weirdly distracting. Now Dad was making us search through dusty old books at a library, looking for some magical statue.

"Alright, Hope, Josie, go left. I'll check the right side," Dad instructed.

Hope groaned dramatically. "I guess I'm on babysitting duty," she joked.
