CHAPTER ONE:
Summer's Dreary End

SEPTEMBER FIRST WAS A BLESSING AND A CURSE. Going to Hogwarts meant that Callisto Lestrange could finally evade the evil in her current residence, her aunt and uncle's luxurious manor, but while at school, she was still under immense pressure to keep up her appearances as 'The Slytherin Princess', the reputation she had created for herself throughout her time at Hogwarts. The girl shouldn't have worried though, by now it was second nature to her.

It was no surprise that the Lestrange had only befriended those with the same blood-prejudiced beliefs as her family, and it was only expected that those friends would be proud to wear the colours of green and silver. There was only one person who was an objection to that general rule, Estella Warrington, and although she was allegedly "too smart" for Slytherin (although that was a little hard to believe) and was therefore sorted into Ravenclaw, she was as just as blood-prejudiced as the rest of them, if not more.

Not one person suspected that Callisto Lestrange's attitude and demeanour was all a facade, and that's exactly how she needed it to be. While her friends all aspired to become the most vicious and cruel Death Eaters the wizarding world had ever seen, the very thought of one day serving the Dark Lord made Callisto feel sick to her stomach, as did the thought of becoming anything like her psychotic and homicidal family, and it wasn't as if she'd have a choice in the matter.

The only thing that brought her even a small sense of solace was the fact her parents were slowly rotting away in a high-security prison far, far away from her. That small amount of comfort was unfortunately lost the very second she discovered her disowned blood-traitor cousin, Sirius Black, had escaped from Azkaban. Despite absolutely loathing Sirius Black with every fibre of their beings, it seemed that Lucius and Narcissa were almost excited that he had escaped, and the Lestrange knew that it was for the same reason in which she was terrified of, and that is one of the multitude of reasons that Callisto Lestrange saw September First of 1993 as a blessing rather than a curse.

Callisto had never been so relieved to finally vacate the Malfoy Manor after a long and gruelling summer, but she knew that the upcoming school year wouldn't be much better. Platform Nine and Three-Quarters had always been exceptionally busy, but Callisto swore that it was worse this year. It was either that or the fact that still felt extremely nauseous after the apparition from Malfoy Manor.

Wanting to get as far away as possible from the ridiculous amount of people that were crammed onto the seemingly tiny platform, she said a short and sweet farewell to her aunt and uncle who's goodbyes were largely the same, emotionless and uncaring, not that Callisto was at all bothered by it. With nothing else to say to her family, she collected her trunk and her brand-spanking-new Firebolt broomstick before heading off towards the very end of the platform where the crowd was more dispersed.
